He was very good out of the bullpen last year and especially thrived when inheriting runners mid inning. There's no reason to cut him loose. Matter of fact, there's no reason to cut Fontenot, Hoffpauir, or Patton loose either cause they all make jack squat in salary.
I think Hoffpauir and Fontenot are out of options. Go ahead and option them down to the minors next year if we don't need them for the bench and if someone snags them... so what? It just doesn't make sense to cut them.

Unless the rules have changed, we should receive a sandwich pick for Harden as a type B as long as we offer arbitration. The team that signs him would not be penalized with the loss of a draft pick making Harden more valuable than if he were a type A free agent. We were never going to offer arbitration to Gregg, so his ranking does not matter. To me the difference between a sandwich pick and a first round pick is so small that I would not worry about it.

What about taking at look at Felipe Lopez at 2B? He's a leadoff hitter, has really learned patience the past couple years, decent defensively at 2B and wouldn't be that expensive ($4 mil maybe?).

I was thinking the exact same thing the other day. I think that is the route we will probably take, as I doubt we'll upgrade at SS (again). As plan B, I like Lopez a lot at 2B.

Orlando Cabrera would be a nice pick...he's older, but is clearly one of those guys who will be able to play until he's dead. And, would definitely allow Theriot to move to 2B...if that really is under consideration.
