Report: Cubs Sign Rudy Jaramillo To 3-Year Deal To Be Hitting Coach

It's possible that Soriano's OPS cratered 150 points from last year simply because he was a year older, and it's also possible that his OPS dropped almost 200 points from roughly the time he was injured THIS year to the end of the season because he got 4 months older, but I'm guessing the injury had something to do with it.
I wish that I believed in Fate. I wish I didn't sleep so late. I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders.

So when does this start to pay off?

Who could have foreseen that paying for the most expensive hitting coach in baseball - a guy whose success was intimately tied to an offensively-inclined ballpark - would turn out to be a waste of money? WHO I ASK?!?!?

To be fair, he has worked well with other MLBers outside of Texas on his own time in the offseason.

I'm sure somebody wrote about it on their blog somewhere. If only I could figure out where that might be.

Wait...so poor hitting IS the players fault after all? I find that hard to believe. Is Gerald Perry available?

I think Fontenot, Soto, and Baker have shown improvement from their work with Rudy (and Fontenot has been a very vocal proponent of Rudy's teahings). Lee is always a slow starter, Soriano is usually a slow starter, and ARAM... I have no idea what his excuse is (stadium ventilation?!?). Maybe Theriot should spend more time with Rudy... or maybe his spring numbers are evening themselves out here in this first couple weeks. Regardless, blaming Rudy for anything this early isn't productive.

I don't think anyone's blaming Rudy. I think they're (we're) saying it was stupid to believe he was going to have some kind of magical impact.

Rudy can earn every penny if he can turn Aramis around.
