20 Things that Make You Look Like a Sports Doofus
#1
Funny article...

Number 1:
<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->1. Wearing a team jersey inscribed with your name

Dubious behavior: Simple. Show up to a Cleveland Cavs game in a No. 23 jersey, only with F-O-R-B-E-S stitched along the back.

Doofus factor: High. It's one thing to create yourself as the cannon-armed quarterback of your favorite squad in "Madden," living out vicarious athletic fantasies in the privacy of your home. It's quite another to drape those same fantasies across your pudgy, rounded shoulder blades as you slouch over the guardrail behind the home team's bench, waiting for a call-up that will never, ever come. Really. Your team would rather sign Jeff George.

Suggested solution: Stick to stock jerseys, the way the NFL sometimes must wish it did.

Mitigating circumstances: If you're a Seattle Seahawks fan … and you pick the retired No. 12 fan jersey … and you don't have a favorite player … or a favorite former star … and you don't mind looking just a bit like a doofus … go ahead and customize your shirt. Sigh.

Related behaviors: Women wearing pink team gear, especially Boston Red Sox hats and Dallas Cowboys jerseys. Wake up, America! Doofusdom does not discriminate on the basis of gender!<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

What bugs me are the douchebags with the replica Yankee jerseys who put "JETER" across the back. It's killing tradition.
I hate my pretentious sounding username too.

Honestly I hate wearing anything "sports" related now. I hate having to explain myself and defend my team with random douche-bags, who would not strike up a conversation with me otherwise. I usually use the excuse my sister lives in Chicago she got me the shirt as a gift, now go somewhere and when you get there fuck yourself.

I try not to wear anything sports related unless I'm going to a game, but that's just me. I don't like to stick out.

I try that, a lot with local stuff. Cubs stuff, I don't really care because people don't notice as much here. But if I wear a USC hoody, I'll get comments all day and it's tiring.

Also, I hate when people wear the wrong jerseys to games. Unless your little league is at the game as a team, you shouldn't wear a Pirates jersey to a Cubs-Astros game.

Same here. But I don't give a shit what people think...just don't like wearing sports gear outside of games.

Ah, Sports fashion. It's not quite gay, not quite metrosexual. It needs a term. Maybe Arena-sexual?

I don't care either, but I'd rather not draw any unnecessary attention to myself. I can't tell you how many times even mentioning the Cubs around a Sox or Cards fan ended up in near messy situation.

how about this: ace has a cub shirt with the name "ace" on the back. He's not only using his name, but he's using his made-up name. it's a cub shirt that says "ace." he didn't even put his last name on it. where does that stand on the list? 1A?

If Angelo had picked McClellin, I would have been expecting to hear by training camp that kid has stage 4 cancer, is actually 5'2" 142 lbs, is a chick who played in a 7 - 0 defensive scheme who only rotated in on downs which were 3 and 34 yds + so is not expecting to play a down in the NFL until the sex change is complete and she puts on another 100 lbs. + but this is Emery's first pick so he'll get a pass with a bit of questioning. - 1060Ivy

I don't think hats count the same way.

I'm not a big fan of jerseys or the typical sports team clothing myself, but I have no issue with them if other people like them. There was this clothing store out here called Moonlight Graham that also opened a store in Lincoln Park. Not sure if it's still open there, the original one here moved to a pretty trendy area on melrose and eventually closed down. Anyway, the owner is a Cubs fan and they make sports team clothing that's sorta designed to look retro and stylish, but also not make you stick out as "that guy" in the bulls jersey if you're at the grocery store. They seemed to be doing really well for awhile and were even selling some designs on MLB.com, though lately I haven't seen there stuff as much. Anyway, worth checking out if you want a Cubs shirt that thousands of other people won't be wearing at the game, and that won't draw too much attention to you in normal life.
