+1/2

I'd like to see him at second, but if that's not possible then... he gone.

<!--quoteo(post=68573:date=Nov 9 2009, 01:27 PM:name=Andy)-->QUOTE (Andy @ Nov 9 2009, 01:27 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec-->I'd rather have Theriot at SS this season with Felipe Lopez at 2B (even if given arbitration, he's only a Type B for the Brewers). Then let Theriot and Castro battle it out in 2011.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

The Cubs can sign Type A free agents, and they don't lose their first round pick, since we were bad enough to end up in the top half of the 2010 draft.

Miles notes from the GM meetings
<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->--Someone asked on the last blog why the Cubs seem “down” on Ryan Theriot. I don’t think 154 games played constitutes “down.” I think many of the fans are more down on Theriot than anything else. Here is what Jim Hendry said when asked if a middle infielder were a priority this winter:

"Not necessarily. I'm very happy with Ryan. Theriot's a winning-type player. He didn't play quite as well late when we were out of it as he did the previous year, but he gives you 110 (percent) every day. You win a lot of baseball games with him. I thought Baker did a really good job after we got him. He gives you a lot of protection. He plays well at second. I think Mike Fontenot was a guy, he'd be the first to tell you, that he had a disappointing year. We certainly need him to bounce back. We've got (Andres) Blanco, who's a great defender. It's no secret that (Aaron) Miles had just a tremendous hiccup and a poor year after two really good years at St. Louis."

More later.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I don't see why anyone would have a problem with Theriot as the everyday 2b, but I'm surprised Hendry is happy with him at SS. I guess it's a case of not having the money to do anything about it. Baker may or may not work out well as a super-sub type guy, but he deserves a shot, I think. Blanco IS a nice option as a defensive replacement and spot starter. However, the fact that Hendry still has any hope for Fontenot or Miles especially makes me wonder if he had a hemorrhage in the part of his brain that he uses to evaluate middle infielders.

Theriot at 2B everyday would be more than fine with me. However, it won't happen, so I'd like to see him go away.

That's where I'm at as well. I'd like for both cajuns to head back to the Bayou or France for that matter.

Ugh same here. Fontenot seems like a good guy and all, but the thought of having to endure another year of watching him be a very average grindey kinda guy makes me very depressed.
