Stupidest trade of the decade: Bradley for Silva.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

Well, it's a fanbole (hyperbole for sports fans) because it just happened, and, as rok said, this was the worst-case scenario for a Bradley trade. I'm sure that if you picked through the catacombs of the past decade, you could find a worse situation than what has transpired since Jim the GM set his sights on Milton Bradley.

But I'm biased. Let's see what others are saying:

From ESPN:
"Brilliant. Again.

Jack Zduriencik, Seattle's GM, I mean. The Mariners, at little or no additional financial expense, have traded a player who might be quite useful for a player who almost certainly will not be useful. Yes, baseball's a funny game. Silva's still a relatively young man, and might again pitch effectively some-
day. But considering that Silva's been terrible in each of the last two seasons, and that Bradley was great in 2008 and decent in 2009, doesn't this seem like an incredibly lopsided deal, talent-wise? "

Yes. Yes it does.

OF FUCKING COURSE IT WAS. For God's sake KB. Is there anyone on the planet who DIDN'T know Bradley was going to be far more valuable to whomever traded for him than for the Cubs? This was a given. If you are going to base this trade on the idea that Hendry should have received equal value back for Bradley, I don't know what the fuck to tell you.

And that's not hostility. It's incredulity.

Butch, I know what a rosy guy you are normally, so this must be pretty bad to have you looking at it negatively.

But for the record, there is an enormous difference between seeing a silver lining and seeing something realistically. It's not great we got Silva. We aren't better because we got Silva. But we got back about what could be expected given the position Bradley put us in. That's being realistic, not optimistic.

Uh...didn't you think Seattle fans were saying THE EXACT SAME THING? Ie, "There's no way were getting a fucking thing for Carlos fucking Silva. No way."

Instead, they got a guy who 12 months ago led their league in OPS!

Seattle has a good GM. Deny that.

That was the quote of the year right there. Perfectly said. Now beat that into KB's head please.

Bradley fucked up -- there's no doubt. But OUR OWN GM put us in this position -- not Bradley. He painted himself into a corner with this fucking trade.

Foe once I'm really not all worked up about this deal. This is exactly what i expected us to get for him. I'm just pissed that we signed the fuck in the first place. We saved $6M to use elsewhere. Now I'm sure I'm going to pissed on how we spend the $6M, but that's a different story.

Bing Fucking Go. I am having a real hard time getting to worked up about this either way. I am not happy about getting Silva but that is not what this trade is about. I am just glad we don't have to pay Bradley to play for someone else. The Cubs actually have some money coming back to blow on another free agent bust is the big deal here IMO.

I'd say that Hundley for Grudz and Karros was a pretty shitty trade as well as Kazmir for Victor Zambrano.

That is why they are paying the Cubs money.
