Our awesome OF in 2010

Anywhere from -25 to -38 runs per year in center.

Give me Baldelli to platoon with with Fuld or Colvin in center. Sign Felipe Lopez or Orlando Hudson to play second. Move Fontenot for someone even shorter, or another middle reliever. Get ready to move Theriot in May when the wunderkid is ready.

If Lee, Ramirez, Soto, Soriano, Fukudome, Zambrano, Dempster, Lilly and one of Wells, Shark or Marshall play like they are supposed to we will be fine in this division. Don't keep hamstringing this team with replacement level players with multi year contracts like Byrd is going to get fom someone.

Apparently we inquired about Nyjer Morgan... If anyone thinks Milton Bradley had it rough with all the racist taynts from the bleachers, just imagine what it would be like for a guy named Nyjer.

QUOTE The Cubs are "not leaning toward" any specific candidate to be their new center fielder at this time, reports Jon Paul Morosi and Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com.
The trade of Milton Bradley will allow the Cubs to move Kosuke Fukudome to right field, where he's less likely to be a liability, but it leaves a void in center. Marlon Byrd and Scott Podsednik are the team's strongest options among free agents, but GM Jim Hendry could also explore trades, possibly with the Yankees for Melky Cabrera or Brett Gardner, depending on how their roster shakes out. Reed Johnson could also make sense, after the Cubs non-tendered him last weekend.

It just blows my mind, but I think I get it. In all of the entire world, there is no outfielder who might fill the hole left by Milton Bradley with the Chicago Cubs National League Ball Club. Or at least there is no such outfielder available within salary constraints, etc. Right?
I'm 100% fine with this. I'm just glad there's an actual plan in place that isn't, "Let's load up on retreads and hope we get lucky." I'm a little tired of that plan.

That's where I am. Although, if there's any truth to the Morgan rumors, I wouldn't mind him. I know the Pierre comparisons will come up, but the guy knows how to get on base and is one of the best defensive centerfielders in the game.

I'm holding my breath that Byrd is not signed.

I swear, if Hendry signs Byrd, and it's anything more than a year plus maybe some kind of option, he is a complete fucking idiot.

He's gonna be a really expensive bench player in 2011 and 2012. Oh, and since the contract will be massively backloaded, at this time next year (and the following winter) we can all be obsessively talking about how much "salary relief" we can get by dumping Marlon Byrd for Barry Zito.

Cabrera is pretty much a younger, cheaper version of Byrd. It would be soooo Hendry to do this, and actually give up minor league talent for an average player.

QUOTE Coco Crisp is nearing an agreement with the Athletics on a one-year deal in the $5MM range, MLBTR has learned. The deal will include an option for 2011. Crisp had been talking to the Padres as well, and his agent Steve Comte expected a decision before Christmas.

Crisp, 30, tallied only 215 plate appearances with the Royals this year due to shoulder injuries. He had surgery on both shoulders during the summer and plans to be ready for Spring Training.

Think Juan Pierre's arm, Bobby Higginson's instincts and Rich Harden's durability.

He's got no business playing CF in the majors.
