I'd rather have him as our pitching coach. Maybe someday we will see Sandberg and Maddux on the same bench together

Only if his name was Mike. Otherwise it would be too gimmicky.

Interesting if Maddux would like to try his hand at being a GM one day. I'm very pleased to have him around again. Good stuff.

I think this is great news. Maddux is a smart guy. I think if a player gravitates towards GM work over coaching it's probably a sign that he's pretty sure he is good at evaluating talent and deals. I'll take that confidence in the front office.

Phil Rogers really likes this move, so now I'm having second thoughts.

In the grand scheme of things, I believe this has little, if any, impact on whether or not the Cubs win a championship.

I wonder what Steve Stone has to say about this...

Glad that Maddux has joined the Cubs organization. It's a nice, feel good story that happened days before the convention but I don't know if the move translates to wins in 2010.
Interesting that at a time other organization have added more sabermetrics-type guys - a bunch of MIT math and stats geeks - in their organizations, the Cubs bring in a retired All Star.
Maddux is replacing Ed Lynch so it's not like we should expect too much from him. Maddux's pitching acumen and knowledge of older players tendencies is outstanding but not certain how that knowledge is going to be used for the Cubs.
