<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->The Cubs trimmed nine players from their Spring Training camp roster on Sunday. Mitch Atkins was optioned to Triple-A Iowa and David Patton was optioned to Double-A Tennessee. Catchers Steve Clevenger and Blake Lalli; outfielder Brett Jackson; infielders Matt Camp and Josh Vitters; and pitchers Jeff Kennard and Vince Perkins all were assigned to the Minor League camp. Jackson was the Cubs' No. 1 Draft pick last June, and Vitters was the top pick in 2007.

Finally got a glimpse of what Starlin Castro can do. Absolutely drilled an RBI double deep into left-center.

This kid has some serious talent. Just a shame he wont break camp with the team. This kid looks to have all the tools be a very successful player at the major league level

Listening to the radio of the Cubs v Angels game and it seems that Castro injured himself late in the game making a play. Anyone heard anything else about it? Not sure if he was subbed or not as my internet dropped out for a couple of minutes.

It's the right call though. If he's mashing at Triple-A and playing good defense after a couple months, or if Baker/Fontenot are struggling, then you can call him up. No reason to rush him though.

The reports were that he just slightly tweaked it. He stayed in the game so it doesn't appear to be anything serious <!--quoteo(post=82784:date=Mar 14 2010, 09:55 PM:name=Clapp)-->QUOTE (Clapp @ Mar 14 2010, 09:55 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec--><!--quoteo(post=82771:date=Mar 14 2010, 07:25 PM:name=AnnoCatuli)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (AnnoCatuli @ Mar 14 2010, 07:25 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec-->This kid has some serious talent. <b>Just a shame he wont break camp with the team.</b> This kid looks to have all the tools be a very successful player at the major league level<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd--> It's the right call though. I think with what he has been able to do, him at SS and Theriot at 2B will be the best middle infield. Main reason he is being sent down though, is to save a little cash

Nope. <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> Agreed JStraw. The reason he will be sent down is because he's 20 years old and needs seasoning.

Nope. <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> Agreed JStraw. The reason he will be sent down is because he's 20 years old and needs seasoning. <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> He also should be given as much chance to play every day as is available to him. Unless we're going to already shift Theriot over to 2B, there just aren't enough ABs for him. Things can change quickly though if Fontenot starts the season playing like he did in 2009. |
