Would you have been pissed if the Cubs were forced to add a fee to their tickets so the White Sox could build The Cell? I totally understand the why other teams are pissed off. Attendance might decline a bit, but the Cactus League is not going to disappear if the Cubs were to leave.
This fee is similar to all of the franchised Subway Restaurants in a city being charged a tax so the new biggest location can build a new store.

I think you're underestimating the impact the Cubs leaving to Florida would have on the Cactus League/the Valley. It would be a massive economic loss for everyone.

And it's not as if the public funds allocated for the other stadiums didn't add to the tax burden placed on ALL AZ residents and visitors. At least the 8% surcharge is targeted to rental cars and hospitality and not the broader economy.

Not if the Cubs had built Wrigley Field with public tax dollars. THAT is the point. The other teams may or may not have a point, but Reinsdorf is a complete hypocrite, after holding up Illinois tax payers with threats of moving to Florida, he got us (taxpayers in Illinois) to fork over a hell of a lot more tax money than the Cubs are getting from Arizona, so they could build methhead Central at 35th and Shields.

As you know, I'm generally opposed to spending money on non-closer relievers... but that's a whole lot of young guns in whom to have to have faith.
Good thing we dumped Michael Wuertz last year.

I'm sure 1 or 2 of them will step up, but like Ace said, this is way too much youth to depend on. You have to have a few very proven arms in the bullpen. Championships aren't won without them.

There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

BTW, where the hell is Cashner? Every prospect guide insists that he's one of the best pitchers in the Cub's system, if not the best, and they ALL say "they may be grooming him to be a SP, but I see him as a future closer."
I thought when he was drafted that he might help the cause in 2008 (!)
