Theriot is a quality ball player that has been an everyday player on a division champion/contending team for multiple years and been getting league minimum. He's not asking for a private clubhouse here.

You're right, he's not asking for a suite. But he made $500,000 last year and is asking for $3.4 million, or a 680% raise. The Cubs offered a 520% raise. Can you imagine you or I getting a 520% raise? That would be huge.

Look, were talking less than 1 million from a team that overpaid Bradley last season, knowing damn well he came with a ton a baggage. A team that gave a ridiculous long term deal to Soriano to keep him going to the <i>other</i> Chicago Cubs team that we were bidding against.

Theriot doesn't have 1% of the upside those guys had at the time of their signings. Sure, they were terrible, but in the moment Soriano was coming off one of the best seasons by a player in recent memory, and Bradley had come into his own, or so we thought. We know what Theriot is, he's an mediocre ballplayer.

Sure, it's chump change, but if we're going to stop making bad deals, we should start on someone like Theriot, today. Plus, there's no advantage in caving with him. Castro is the future, so who cares if wee-man gets his feelings hurt.
