<{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec-->Scarey, where does Bryd rank in advenced defensive metrics? I have to admit that I have the presumption that he's a subpar CFer, but I am really basing this on his body type and not on any real evidence. I don't remember ever watching him play defense. I do know that Keith Law considers Byrd a subpar CFer, but a good corner OFer.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I didn't know Keith Law's opinion on it. That certain factors into my opinion as well.
As far as advanced metrics, he's rates as average as you can get. He's a 0.0 for his career in UZR/150. Last year he had a rough year and had a -9.5 UZR/150 while two years ago he had a very good year with a 15.3.
His plus/minus as a centerfielder from 2006-2009 was +3 which is average.
All the metrics say he's average. Testmonials from people say he's above average. This is what John Dewan had to say about him in a short blurb I found referencing his defense in center in 2008.
<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Marlon Byrd, by the way, was plus-4 in 400 innings and looked pretty good out there.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
It's things like this that I see popping up about Byrd from time to time.
