I thought our over/under would be about 85. I'm saying 87 right now, and out of the playoffs by a few games. I know it's the Cubs, but I'll be surprised if we do worse than last year, even with a blah offseason where we look even worse on paper. I think anywhere from 83-93 wins.
Really hard to predict though, as we really don't know what we're gonna get from Soriano, Soto, Lee, Theriot, Byrd, Fukudome, Baker, Fontenot, Lilly(I'm saying more how much of him we're going to get at least), Dempster, Wells, Guzman, and Marmol. That's over half the team.

Clapp, I hope you're right but I think you are overly optimistic. I believe this is a .500 ball club. Could do a little better, could be a little worse. You are right that there are very few sure things on this team.

I pretty much agree with Clapp on the 85 win forecast. People forget how crappy we looked all of last year and we still managed to win 83 games. I know this is a different season and people have gotten older, some more fragile, etc, but I think this may be the last season of our window of opportunity. I think it closes at the end of this season, and then we go in a slightly different direction next season with a ton of contracts coming off the books. But again, I think our players realize this, and they will surprise us a bit and be competitive for one more season.

The Score Overnight show is actually reallly good, and 1/2 of Mully and Hanley isn't bad, but overall they still don't treat both teams fairly throughout the rest of the day.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I disagree. The shows are evenly split
Mulley and Hanley one Cub fan, one Sox fan
Danny Mac and Mat, one Cub fan one Sox fan
B&B, both Sox fans, but they dont sit there and bash the Cubs all the time.
I love hearing people be critical on the team. Maybe not overly so, but I dont want someone who is going to kiss the teams ass and go on and on about how great player X is doing when he is 0-5 with 3 errors (made up player). If someone sucks, I have no problem with them being called out.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
You are making some fundamental mistakes here.
Mulley, optimistic Sox fan, Hanley, pessimistic Cub fan. One praises the Sox, the other rips the Cubs. More often than not, Mulley is the voice of reason when discussing the Cubs.
Can't listen to mac and mat as I'm at work
B&B bash pretty much everyone, but they have a much different standard when bashing the Cubs. If any Cub fan talked about a Cub prospect the way that B&B talk about Beckham (just yesterday, Boers was explaining how Beckham will contribute "almost" as much offense as Adrian Gonzalez over the next few years), they would be laughed off the air by B&B
I don't want a homer either, but listening the other day to a bunch of guys laughing at the mere mention of Julio Zuleta, as though just his existence as a former Cub is good enough for a punchline, was depressing as all get out.
I wish that I believed in Fate. I wish I didn't sleep so late. I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders.

I got quite a good laugh out of them talking up their farm system. Holmes kept coming back to how Beckham would have to be included in a Gonzalez trade but Boers was trying to rationalize just trading other guys. Boers actually thought Daniel Hudson and Jordan Danks was enough to get Gonzalez.

That was the exact conversation I was listening to. Then a bunch of callers call up and act like since Gonzalez costs a lot of money, the Sox are holding all the cards. They seem to forget there are roughly 28 other teams who might want a part of Gonzalez, and they may be able to give up more than Danks and Hudson.
Beckham may end up being awesome, but Boers usually has no patience for Cub fans even remotely buying into any prospect hype, so his buying into Beckham so quickly is pretty comical.

What's actually kind of funny, is his OPS through almost 500 plate appearances is very similar to Ryan Theriot's OPS through 500 plate appearances.
Beckham: .805
Theriot: .795
I'm not implying that he's going to turn into Theriot, but there's no way Beckham has proven he's a can't miss prospect. I keep hearing 20-25 HRs a year for the next 10 years from Sox fans. We were saying the same thing about Murton (who actually had a better OPS than Beckham does through his first 500 plate appearances). Nothing is a sure thing with prospects.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have a prospect like Beckham (sans Blagojevich hairdo), but it is quite funny how he is penciled in for instant all-star production after barely a full season. Now, there is a point to be made that a productive 2B is much more valuable and more rare than a productive 1B, so I can see the reasoning behind those who say that trading a package of players including Beckham is a lot in exchange for Gonzalez, especially when you factor in that he would walk after 2 seasons. Then agan, it's insane to assume anything about a young player with less than one year of experience.
And Boers was poopooing the Red Sox offer of Bucholtz and others for Gonzalez as if their system was crap compared to theirs. Please...

I have a real love hate relationship with B&B. There are times when I listen to them and I laugh my ass off. There are other times where I can't stand to listen to them.

Boers yesterday made the following claims:
Beckham will be a perennial All Star
Beckham will eventually be a regular MVP candidate.
Beckham will eventually be a Hall of Fame candidate.
Boers would not trade Beckham for Gonzalez.
Boers would not trade Beckham for Pujols.
I actually think Beckham has the potential to be a special player, but if I made these kinds of comments about a similar Cubs prospect (should one ever appear), I would be laughed off the B&B show. And rightfully so.

The worst thing about Boers (and the list is quite long), is that he pretends to be impartial to both teams, just so that he can act as though he is being fair at all times. He always points to Bernstein as the diehard Sox fan on the show, and hides behind him whenever he says anything that even remotely reveals his bias.
