Why is it that every thread we have about Starlin Castro inevitably devolves into an argument over prescribed AP styles and usage of parenthesis?
I wish that I believed in Fate. I wish I didn't sleep so late. I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders.

FYI about not ending a sentence with a preposition, Winston Churchill once said "This is the sort of bloody nonsense up with which I will not put." It's not actually a rule. Sorry Ace.

He should have simply said, "I will not put up with this sort of bloody nonsense." Too wordy.

"Rules" are only as applicable as the governing body that espouses them. When it comes to grammar and style, there are no "rules," because there are a number of bodies. But for every one that you could find that would not designate the no-preposition-to-end-a-sentence thing as a "rule," I imagine I could find one that would.

That all said, the prevailing view is that you only honor that "rule" where it wouldn't make the meaning of the sentence more confusing. So I agree.

Just looking over Starlin's numbers. I've heard comparisons to Hanley Ramirez before, so I looked into it.

Hanley Ramirez
Age 19 @ Augusta (A) .275, 8 HR, 50 RBI, 36 SB in 111 games
Age 20 @ Sarasota (A+) .310, 1 HR, 24 RBI, 12 SB in 62 games
Age 20 @ Portland (AA) .310, 5 HR, 15 RBI, 12 in 32 games

Starlin Castro
Age 19 @ Daytona (A+) .302, 3 HR, 35 RBI, 22 SB in 96 games
Age 19 @ Tennessee (AA) .288, 0 HR, 14 RBI, 6 SB in 31 games
Age 20 Spring Training .444, 1 HR, 5 RBI, .714 SLG in 16 games

They're really similar, and I can't wait to see what Starlin does this year. Keep in mind, that Castro is a year ahead of Hanley, because he started at 17. Also, Hanley's power came later. His 8 homers as a 19 y/o was the most he had in the minors. Going off of Butchers' report of Castro on B&I, and what Clapp and others have said, I think it's possible that he could be like Hanley.
I hate my pretentious sounding username too.

Yep, I could see Starlin becoming a Hanley kind of player, no big power numbers right now but he's a well built kid and may develop to be a power hitter.

Well, that we will see on the future, but for now... fuck Theriot, bring Castro. NOW!

Another thing about the Hanley/Castro comparison...Starlin is a MUCH better fielder at this age. Considering they play such a premium defensive position, that's a big deal, IMO.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

Everything I've heard suggests his defense is amazing, but I hope his defense really does pan out. I remember hearing praises for Cedeno's defense, and he was terrible and consistently over threw Lee at first.

Cedeno was known for his ability to make amazing defensive plays.

His defensive reputation was built on his ability to make these impossible plays. Unfortunately, he was as likely to make an impossible play as flub a routine grounder.
