Cubs vs Padres, 11 Mar 2010
#1
Minor miracle, Silva doesn't give up a run against the Padres subs.

3.0 innings, 4H, 1 BB, 0 R

Cubs 4 - 0 in the 3rd.

Colvin 2-2
Castro 1-1

Aside from injuries, probably the worst thing that could happen this spring is that Silva pitches well enough/not too terrible enough to make the roster.

I know its only ST, but is Colvin making a case for himself? I can't recall how he's done in past spring trainings...

I believe this is his first ST. Probably would have had an invite last year but he was dealing with an injury.

Colvin has a lot of positives going for him. He hit the cover off the ball last year, he took a respectable amount of walks, he gained weight in the offseason, and he's hitting the cover off the ball once again. He was a disappointement up until halfway through last season, but is quickly turning it back around. Would be nice to have a good left handed bat in the organization even if it's just for trade bait.

Santo kept saying the other day that Colvin had gained a ton of weight of muscle this offseason and that we could expect some great things from him. We'll see.

He's definitely putting himself in the discussion, but a long shot still I'd say. I believe I heard that he's really worked his ass off and gotten a bit stronger.

Ha, well guess I wasn't the only one. Yeah I think I heard it from Len and Bob on the broadcast last weekend.

Castro crushed a HR today. Him and Colvin are both raking so far this spring.

Santo keeps saying a lot of things. Santo is Abe Simpson.

Colvin will have to prove he can play good - not just adequate - defense in all three outfield positions to make the team. The guy he's competing with, IMO, is Sam Fuld.

Yeah, I hope so, since Nady isn't gonna be able to play much defense. Sometimes I wonder if Lou gives a shit about defense though. I mean Fontenot at SS? C'mon Lou. I have a feeling that if Colvin keeps hitting like this, he might make the team either way.

Guess Caridad also shit on Sullivan's face. Wish I could join in.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Esmailin Caridad survived a shaky ninth, allowing three unearned runs due to a Mike Fontenot error, before getting a game-ending pop-up.

Caridad then punched his fist in the air and spit into his glove.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
