I actually know a kid named Tony Campana who is also 24. I just confirmed that it is a different guy, which is a relief because he is a ginormous douche. This one still probably sucks though.

Guyer was a 25ish prospect in the system going into last season, and kind of fell off the radar a bit between last year and this.

He has to be moving up after this season right? I mean I know he repeated a year but it looks like he was moved pretty quick. He is having a damn nice season all the way around. I am really interested in this kid.

Guyer was pretty well thought of two years ago. He was a pretty good center fielder and showed power. He had a very rough season last year and was demoted which caused his fall off the radar that Ace is speaking of. This year he's showing that power again but he's playing in the corner outfield spots. I've heard he can handle centerfield, but won't wow anybody.

I think it may have been somebody at NSBB, but I heard a comp to Reed Johnson. If we could produce a Reed Johnson clone from Guyer I'd be extremely happy. Between he and Ty Wright, we could have a nice righty/lefty combo of outfield bats off the bench.

Campana is a slap hitter with speed. He can actually take a walk too. If he is decent in centerfield and can keep his average at around .300 he could be a good leadoff type. He seems like a middle of the road base stealer with a 76% success rate. If I knew a bit more about his intangibles (base running, arm strength, ability to read fly balls) I would have a better idea on his probability to be a MLB calibre player. I haven't heard anything outstanding in those areas, so I may have to assume the worst.

EDIT: Campana did have 9 outfield assists last year and 3 this year, so his arm strength may be adequate at least.

How is Campana different from Sam Fuld...?

I don't think they are very different at all. Fuld unfortunately stumbled in spring training in '07 and '08 when he would have been a prime candidate to make the team. If Campana is hitting and getting on base much like he has this year, he could get his chance. Also, Campana has had an extra year to develop in the Cubs system compared to Fuld.

Jay Jackson's regression has been very disappointing. But then again, the emergence of McNutt, Carpenter, and Kirk has been encouraging.

While Jackson's numbers are fairly ugly this year, it's not incredibly surprising. He's an extreme fly ball pitcher pitching in a league that happens to be a home run hitter's paradise. I think Jackson would put up fantastic numbers as a member of the NL West.

Another strong outing by Carpenter.

You think Jackson gets a look in September or a hard look in ST for the rotation?

And when does Carpenter get serious consideration for a call-up? God, I'd love to just blow up our current rotation and see what we have in September. What a crappy spot to be in.

Maybe and yes.

Rok, I think Carpenter will get consideration for the rotation next year but most likely will get more time in the minors. His peripherals were not exactly glamorous this year.

If any of the following have good spring trainings, they should have a chance to make the rotation: Cashner, Jay Jackson, Diamond, Coleman, Samardzija and Bibens-Dirkx.

The following would be more realistic for opening day of 2012: Carpenter, Archer, Rusin, and McNutt.
