Agreed. Kid or Scarey, what's Rusin's story? I know I've heard his name before, but is he considered one of the better arms out there for the Smokies?

Also, look like Jackson's starting to come out of his slump. Readjusting to the pitchers maybe?

Everything I've heard about Rusin is that he was very advanced coming out of college and should progress through the minors fairly quickly, but his ceiling isn't very high. I would compare him to a left handed Randy Wells. Very good control with average stuff. It would be a success if he had results similar to what Wells has had. One thing to worry about with him is that he's a lefty that throws a sinker. That pitch is going to break right out over the plate and if he throws it too often to righties he's going to get hit hard. If he wants to be successful in the majors, he may have to either be a lefty specialist or have a good out pitch to throw to righties.

Northwest League president Bob Richmond handed down the suspension, which took effect before Sunday night's 15-4 loss to the AquaSox.

"I've been in this business a long time -- 28 years with the Northwest League alone -- and I've never ever had that situation before," Richmond told the Idaho-Press Tribune. "He was wrong and that's why we had to take the action we did. It's just a very serious thing that we're not going to put up with. When the umpires say something, you have to do it."

The start of Saturday's game was delayed by rain for 80 minutes. In the bottom of the first inning, Boise left fielder Ryan Cuneo slipped while trying to track down Hawkins Gebbers' RBI double that gave Everett a 2-0 lead.

Davis came out to talk to plate umpire Matt Mullins and argued that the playing conditions were unsafe. He then instructed his team to leave the field, prompting telephone calls between the umpiring crew and Richmond.

When play resumed nearly 30 minutes later, Gebbers returned to his spot on second base and Evan Sharpley moved into the batter's box. The Hawks, however, never left their dugout. Mullins and base umpire Matt Heersema waited five minutes before signaling to the press box that Boise had forfeited.

"Although Jody's actions were in his best interests for the players, we do not believe in, nor condone, the tactics in which were used that led to the forfeiture of the contest," Hawks president and general manager Todd Rahr said.

Davis, a former Major League catcher, is in his first season managing the short-season Hawks. He guided the Class A Advanced Daytona Cubs to the Florida State League championship in 2008 before spending last season as the Cubs' Minor League catching coordinator.

Barring any postponements, Davis is eligible to return to the dugout Aug. 15 when the Hawks host the AquaSox.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

What a bunch of shit. The forfeit WAS the punishment.

Another decent night for Jackson...2-4 with two RBI and a walk.

I took it from the team president's statement that he didn't quite buy that it was all about player safety.

So Hoff and Castillo are on their way. Joy.

I hate to say this about prospects, but I hope Castillo runs himself out of contention as back up catcher next year with how he plays in the next month and a half. He's clearly not ready after a .317 OBP at AAA. He just turned 23 at the beginning of the season, I just don't understand why the Cubs are so eager to rush him through the system.

It's the Koyie Hill Effect. They are desperate for a decent backup catcher, and as bad as he is they feel rushed on Castillo.

Another quality start by a TN pitcher. I enjoy their box scores. Gives me a little hope that we have arms somewhere.

I have a write up going up soon for Bleacher Nation on three catching prospects that are options as the back up catcher next year. Castillo was my least favored option.

Seriously what is the fucking point of bringing up Hoffpauir?

To play as Lee is away from the team.

Hoffpauir could have easily done what Nady's done this season for a fraction of the cost. Just sayin.

That is true but at the time we signed him we were hoping he would turn back into the 25hr 97 rbi type of guy.
