QUOTE (jstraw @ Apr 13 2010, 09:08 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>I'm mostly on board with the not booing your own players thing.

Mostly...

Chuck the second out into the stands? Boo.

Don't run out a grounder and you're not gimpy? Boo.

Shit like that is fair game any game of the season.

What he said.
I'm 100% fine with this. I'm just glad there's an actual plan in place that isn't, "Let's load up on retreads and hope we get lucky." I'm a little tired of that plan.

How is that old fashioned? When did Wrigley fans start booing their own players based on a very limited amount of performance?

Furthermore, why Soriano? Do you think he's not trying? Do you boo him just because Hendry overpaid him?

I don't get it. What good could this possibly do?

And, yes, I recognize everone's God-given and ticket-paying right to boo.

Ask Lee Elia if booing at Wrigley is a new trend.

And print it!
This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena. [Image: ITgoyeg.png]

I think that most Cubs fans have taken the "disgruntled" label way too seriously to the point where they feel they have earned the right to act like asses regardless of the situation. It's become a cliche, and they don't even realize it.

I'm not saying that I've never booed a player (Neifi and Macias once felt my wrath), but if you make a habit of it, you are a moron plain and simple.

Hey, did I transcribe the rant and post excerpts from it, describing them as what a friend of mine told me Elia said?

No, I did not.

Can anyone my age really be that disgruntled? I mean, yes the teams that I have followed have underachieved, but I didn't care that much about 98, don't remember 89, 84, wasn't alive for the shitty teams in the 70's, and wasn't alive for the Cubs dream team in 69. So how can anyone younger than 28ish really that disgruntled as a fan? I mean relative to my parents, uncles and some of you old farts around here.
If Angelo had picked McClellin, I would have been expecting to hear by training camp that kid has stage 4 cancer, is actually 5'2" 142 lbs, is a chick who played in a 7 - 0 defensive scheme who only rotated in on downs which were 3 and 34 yds + so is not expecting to play a down in the NFL until the sex change is complete and she puts on another 100 lbs. + but this is Emery's first pick so he'll get a pass with a bit of questioning. - 1060Ivy

They're human. They're usually in the 20's or early 30's. To say that having your home-town fans booing you doesn't have any affect is absurd. (indeed, if it has no effect, then why are you doing it?)

It does have an effect. A negative one. On the player and the team.

Do you boo everything you're displeased with? Why is it that because there is 20,000 other people doing it it's ok?

I do believe in booing someone like Milton because he is a cock.

I don't believe in booing someone like Soriano or any other player on this current Cubs team. Boo the player and you are booing the whole club. Its fucked. It is making our whole fan base look like fucking dickheads to fan bases of other teams and it gives opposing teams a kind of an undeserved ego boost and maybe a confidence boost when they play at Wrigley.

And if we keep it up, we will definitely have a hard time of finding free agents to play for the club.

And booing a rookie like Caridad is just retarded.

I task you lads that attend Wrigley on a regular basis to kick seven shades of shit outta anyone who does it.
