Braden Looper?

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->FoxSports.com's Ken Rosenthal tweets that free agent Braden Looper threw for the Cubs today, and will be flexible on his role if the Cubs want him.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

If signing Looper means we can ship Samardzija back to AAA, I'd be doing backfilps~ there is no way Looper could (or likely would) do any worse than Shark has. As a reliever with closing experience, he could be an asset. I'd rather see us looking at Pedro Martinez, but at this point, I'd be happy with anyone that can help.

Shark is going down when Lilly comes back. At least he should be.

I never imagined that I would start tuning out this team only 14 games into the season. If we sign Looper, it probably won't make much of a difference. Can he help Aramis find his stroke again?

I can see the fireworks coming...if anyone other than Shark is sent down.

I'm telling you, it won't be Shark.

I hope I'm wrong.

Kap's a douche, but just passing this along...

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->David Kaplan: I am hearing that Jim Hendry is looking to make a deal to boost the struggling Cubs. Not a minor move but looking much bigger than that.

David Kaplan: There is considerable sense of urgency with season heading in the wrong direction. Any deal will include pitching coming back to the Cubs.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I guess that means they weren't very impressed with Looper.

Maybe if he pitches to him.

Who would do a deal this early in the season for someone significant. Kap is blowing smoke up our asses.

What possible RP out there would be considered a significant addition anyway?

Unfortunately, I agree. Cubs have a lot of money invested in him and will want to see some return on their investment. We'll hear it's a righty vs lefty rationale but it comes down to cash.

If Silva stays in the rotation when Lilly comes back, then it will have to be Russell sent down or we have 4 LH in the pen.

Who's going to the pen?

Meh. Russell's going down and Silva's going to the pen...but frankly, Shark's suckedness is more significant than his handedness.

These bullpen discussions just aren't the same without Anno's insights.

Well I'm sure that if a Looper deal loomed, there would be quiet a stir inside Wrigleyville, according to Anno. His friend's cousin would get pretty excited, considering he works in the Loop.
