Z to the Pen

That's been the speculation all week from the media. Gorzelanny is the prime candidate for a trade, provided that this minor injury doesn't cause him to miss much time. Last night the reports were that Z could start against the Cards next week. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Since 2008, Zambrano has an ERA of 8.42 against the Cards.

Yep. He's had several good starts against them over the years, but lately some of his biggest blow-ups have happened against the Tards. I don't think it is a good idea just yet to put him in a situation like that, at least not until he is stretched out again.

I hope he doesn't pitch against the Cardinals next Sunday when I'm there.

Since Lou announced that Z was going to long relief and then back to the rotation, he's appeared three straight times in the 8th inning in tight ballgames, and thrown very few pitches.

Lou has spent his last marble. He's all out.

I dont know if anyone else heard it but, I think on WGN in the first inning they said Z was expected to be back in the rotation next week, most likely against the pirates...

I heard something on the Score this morning that Gorzelanny is already griping a bit about potentially moving to the pen. I guess no one informed him that 3 out of his past 4 starts were mediocre to bad. Trade him now while his value is high.

Is there anybody you don't want to trade or cut?
This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena. [Image: ITgoyeg.png]

A RH middle reliever that can hold his own. Teams need starting pitching, especially cheap SP.

Well that sounds easy.
There are plenty of available middle relievers out there.

I don't think anyone expects to get much value in return, but the other options like wasting him in long relief aren't any better. Right now, his value is probably the highest it's been in 3 years, so might as well see if we can get lucky with a team that needs a SP.

Unless we're going with a 6 man rotation, I say trade him before he turns back into a frog.
