Fizzled.

He didn't fizzle at SS, he moved to 3rd because the Yankees have some guy named Jeter there. A-Rod was a GG SS while in Texas, IIRC.

That's right...but that he got his first huge payday as a SS makes it even less relevant to what first basemen get paid.

I think VanSlaw intended "fizzled" to mean "fixed," but in Snoop Dogg-speak.

Yeah, I know the contract has a bad rep, but there was a reason that A-Rod's $252 M deal happened:
-all-around 5-tool star (a Gold Glove SS, a 40-steals baserunner)
-only 25 years old, just about to ENTER his prime
-for all his quirks, a deeply dedicated athlete
-already one of the best hitters in MLB
-playoff experience, played under a good manager (yep, Lou) had superstar teammates to learn from (Griffey at his peak, Edgar, the Big Unit), and had six years of MLB experience under his belt.
I doubt that that combination will be coming around again in our lifetimes.

I agree with that...but no one but the Yankees would have given him that deal...not saying he wasn't deserving of the biggest payday...just that any other team would have had to let him walk with the Yankees in the market.

Babe Ruth had 'em too. Massive nostrils. Maybe it helps in power hitting.
