Also from the K Law chat: (hey, I can dream, can't I?

Ricketts has been talking a lot about math and statistical analysis. Do you expect him to clean house after this year and bring someone like you in?
Klaw (1:32 PM)

He hasn't called, if that's what you're asking. Seriously, new owner firing a GM after a year is a pretty common occurrence in the sport. If they don't perform on the field, Hendry's probably in trouble.

I haven't been this upset since we signed BJ Ryan to a minor league deal.

Hopefully this will end the exact same way. I actually liked that signing at the time.

I gots an idea...

How's about we see what happens?

Like...you know...maybe we see if he's really as bad as we all think he is, and if he is...we move on.

If he's not...we get to be surprised...without all the histrionics.

Whaddya say?

So no one should ever criticize a move? Ever?

He sucked with us before. He currently sucks. Is the jury still out?

I enjoy the games more when I invest a bit in all of the off-field stuff that give them context. Some people enjoy sports more when the bet money on a game. I enjoy it more when I compare the unfolding at bat, defensive play, batting order, roster move, game, series or season's actual outcomes with the ideas about them I have in my head from processing the information I have access to. If I just turned on the tube and watched a game without that context, I'd have less interest in it. I can't have that context without opinions. I'm not made that way.

You should totally criticize a move. It's our God given right.

You shouldn't completely fucking lose your shit because the Cubs may or may not have signed a bad reliever to a contract which may or may not end up with him being the 6th man out of the pen at some point this year.

Second, if this move is true, I hope it follows the same line as the Jose Hernandez trade of 2003—if you catch my drift.
You're hoping we give up Mark Bellhorn for him?

I don't think anyone is "losing his shit" over the move. For most of us, it's almost kind of humorous.

When Howry left here, it had gotten to the point where he was universally despised, so our collective reaction to today's news was a kind of disbelief, at first. But as long as he's sent to the minors to get some work, what the hell?

Despite his lack of talent in '08, I always considered him to be a stand-up guy. So if he miraculously regains some semblance of MLB-calibre stuff, it'll be a fine story, one that we'll all embrace.

Go Bobby!
