Cubs @ Phillies 20 May

Yup. I thought for sure they'd just put him on. Santo called for it in the booth. Hill called for it.

And Lou had Dempster pitch to him. Moran.

This might have been a win if not for that.

Grabow has been in 20 games this season. He's not given up a run in 7 games. So 2 out of 3 times he comes in, he's given up a run. Of the 7 games he hasn't given up a run, 4 of them he went less than 1 inning and only 4 times has he been in a game where he hasn't given up a walk or a hit.

That's about as bad as you can get and remain in the majors.
I got nothin'.

He is the LH RP equivalent of Bradley from last season without the antics. So satisfying to know that he will be Hendry's annual salary dump special project.

With Z and Marmol pretty much unavailable, Marshall was the closer. With Russell already used, Grabow was the only other lefty for Howard/Utley/Rollins/Ibanez, or it could have been Stevens or Berg. As awful as he's been, Grabow was the guy to use.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Bringing him in was one thing, but he clearly didn't have it. He was 3-0 on seemingly every batter. He should have been yanked after 3 batters or so. That was my main complaint. We had no one warming up in the pen either.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
And bring in who? Marshall was "unavailable" until the 9th, I believe Berg is the only other option. Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather have Grabow in there than Berg, especially against those lefties. Be pissed at Grabow for sucking, I certainly am. But I see nothing Lou could have done about it today.
The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.

What would we have done if we ended up in extra innings, just left Grabow in there indefinitely?

Just because Grabow is left handed does not mean he's the best person to face left handed batters. Just saying.

Who would you have in the game for Utley/Howard/Rollins/Ibanez? Keep in mind, Marmol and Zambrano are unavailable, and Marshall isn't an option because he's being saved for the ninth.

Z had a lot less work than Grabow over the week. AND if he was unavailable because they are hoping to stretch out his arm with longer appearances, then today was an example of what happens when the Z move fucks a stranger in the ass, Larry.

Marshall can pitch more than one inning.

I'm not answering for 'neck. But my response is that I wouldn't have him in my pen to begin with. I'd take my chances with Berg or Stevens.

I don't disagree with any of that, but it's not up to us whether he was more available than Grabow. Z had pitched two days in a row, and for a guy that's new to the pen anyway, three days is too much.

As for CC's suggestion, I guess he could have thrown 2, but I don't really see a manager doing that with his closer for the day.

Anyway, the point is there just weren't too many great options. I'm mad about not walking Rollins, and Grabow sucking, and Castro and Ramirez not being able to put the ball in play, but in this situation I don't see anything wrong with Grabow being called upon.

Just when I start liking this team again today happens. They fight back, Grabow blows (big fucking surprise), and once again they can't put a ball in play with no one out and the tying run on third. Gee Ramirez's K in the top of ninth couldn't have been more predictable. Seriously, did he forget how to hit? I just don't get how someone so consistent could have sunk to these depths so quickly. I'm baffled.

It sounded like an awful pitch that he swung at for strike 3, but he originally had the day off because of an injured finger. He probably never should have been called upon in the first place.
