AH, I stopped watching after the Cubs picked, and was going on the odd idea that there would only be one guy named Sale picked in the first round. Egg on my face.

I noticed on the big draft board at the event that Simpson's sign was a slightly different color than the rest.

You know, after seeing all of our hot shot prospects crash and burn much of the past decade and a half, I really don't mind taking someone that 1) No one knows about and 2) Has no expectations.

I kinda like that Wilken has the balls to draft exactly who he wants and not worry what the fans or media want or like. He knows his shit and puts himself out on a limb. The Colvin pick was almost identical to this one.

I like it. I'm amazed at all the negativity about this pick. People are going crazy about pre-draft player ratings. Since when do those ratings pan out, other than maybe a couple top picks?

I'm fine with the pick, as long as we are able to grab some guys in rounds 2-4 that are going to be able to make an impact. Some of their picks have been right on, but some really haven't (Tony Thomas, for example, looks to be a career minor leaguer, though was picked in the 2nd round). Let's see... Under JH's watch, we've done pretty well developing our own guys. Considering how JH is likely performing to keep his job, not going the "safe bet" way in the 1st round took some guts. I hope it works out for all of us.

Exactly. It's not as though the Cubs were thinking, "yeah, this is a 6th round talent, and he'll definitely be around in the 2nd or 3rd round, but let's pick him now for shits and giggles!"

Exactly...even the "predictability" of the NFL and NBA drafts has become a crapshoot.
And...I also love Wilken's balls to trust himself and his data.
