Soriano ain't sitting, and Byrd had been the most consistent hitter on the team from day one. That leaves Fukudome, and he's a lefty, too.

Look at the Colvin and Byrd splits vs Right handers. I am not saying he should always play over Byrd but he should be getting a lot more at bats than he is getting.

Bingo. And Fuk needs rest (he's slipping already), along with Soriano from time to time. There is no reason why Colvin shouldn't be in the lineup 2-3 times per week.

I totally agree with both of you. I'm just saying it's understandable why he hasn't played so much yet.

I think I take back what I said about Theriot not being an idiot and just sucking. I think it's both.

Taking a called strike in a hit and run is about as dumb as it gets.

Lou told him to take some walks, dude. You can't walk when you swing the bat!

QUOTE Manager Lou Piniella also decided to bench Ryan Theriot. He inserted Mike Fontenot at second base for Monday's game against the Pirates, batting him fifth behind Aramis Ramirez.

Piniella wouldn't call it a "rest" for Theriot.

"Fontenot has had a good month, he's swinging the bat well," Piniella said. "So we'll see how Fontenot does. But, I'm not going to say one way or another ... It could be more than a one-day thing here.

"We're talking about one walk the whole month (for Theriot). That's kind of hard to do. We've talked to him about it. He had one extra-base hit the whole month. We'll see. I like the energy he brings. I like the way he plays baseball. Unfortunately for us, what we need here is offense. We'll see what happens, but I've got to get people in there that are swinging the bat, that's all."

Those are actually some pretty shocking comments. Right, but shocking.

And yet there is Theriot getting an at bat in the 9th inning, the same inning a guy with a .411 OBP gets pinch hit for.

You know you're in trouble when Carlos Silva is your team MVP on June 1. Fuck this team from top to bottom.
