GIOVANNI VAN BRONCKHORST!! Goal of the tournament. Incredible.
The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.

Meh. What a bunch of queens...diving all over the field. They're as bad as the Italians.

This sucks. Spain deserved it though, they played their best game, especially defensively. Just sucks that Puyol gets the winner, I really can't stand that guy.

Too many Polacks on the German side. That was their downfall.

I'm mainly disappointed because the Dutch still really, really, REALLY hate Germans.

Why because he's good? Fuckin overhyped Germans...put up a ton of goals against a very average English team and an Argentina team with garbage defense and a mediocre keeper in Romero and everyone has them winning it all. I'm so glad they lost. They were completely dominated, with the exception of a couple of good chances they did absolutely nothing.

Over hyped Germans? Going into the cup they had fairly low expectations and no real established stars on the team after Ballack got injured. They played a bunch of young guys and played really well over the tournament as a whole, and performed far better than anyone thought. If anything Spain had been the over hyped team, favorites going into the tourney with Brazil and didn't play a really complete game start to finish until this one.

Yes they were overhyped after they thrashed Argentina. People had them in the final before they even got to the pitch after the quarters. They are a good team with good young players...but lets be realistic.

Yeah Spain is overhyped....ranked second in the world and lost only twice in almost fifty matches and won the European Championship in 2008. Only took them two years to be beaten and scored 73 goals while only conceding 11. Every team they've faced has gone in with a defensive game plan and this is why the scores have been so low. Not to mention one of their premiere strikers, Torres, still hasn't played the way he can because of his knee injury. They've played according to their strength...pass and keep possession until they find a hole in the defense and it works. I don't know what's going to happen in the finals, the Dutch are a good team, but you're just plain wrong if you think they are overhyped.

Sorry, just barely getting out of the group and not playing a good game until the semifinals for a team that is either the best or second best team in the world equals over hyped. If they play like they did today against Holland then they will win, but we just haven't seen them play that way enough the last two years for anyone to be sure.

All the talent + Poor play = Over hyped.

They didn't just barely get out of the group they lost their first game and did what they had to do to win the group. They controlled their own path and did so. They are in the finals despite not playing at their absolute best. Apparently they had to be perfect to live up to the hype. Hahahaha I'm not sure how a team playing for the championship can be overhyped...they're where they were predicted to be. You haven't seen them play enough that way to be sure over the last two years? They won 35 straight matches I don't know how much more proof you need. I'm not going to continue arguing with you over this simply to argue....

Spain was expected to steamroll through the tournament until they got to Brazil in the final. Instead, they struggled with Paraguay, Honduras, Chile and Portugal, and lost to the always forgotten Swiss. They simply played down to their competition. Germany was expected to be the flopping power, and struggle in their second choice "group of death" with the Serbs and Ghana. They absolutely destroyed Argentina, shutting them down completely. Did you watch? Because any hype from that game that they got, was all deserved. Today, Germany got it right back as Spain finally put together a full game, but yet they only could score once. Germany had so few chances and couldn't create anything until the pre-pubescent, 20 year old Toni Kroos came on late. Spain surely deserved to win it, but the way Spain played, it could have been 3 or 4-nil. They missed a ton of chances, had trouble finishing, and were stopped by pretty good goalkeeping. That's how Spain has fared all tournament. Villa and Alonso missed PKs, Torres has struggled, and Xavi hasn't been Xavi. Germany however were without Ballack, featured an aging Klose, started two young and inexperienced attackers in Muller(just 2 pre-World Cup caps) and Ozil(10 caps), and had to replace Kahn and Lehman in net with a young Manuel Neuer(5 caps). A side being full of inexperienced players in key roles is "over hyped"? Please. All those question marks are what carried them. Ozil and Muller might be co-Young Players of the Tournment, Neuer has been sensational and Klose could still pass Ronaldo in World Cup goals if he nets a pair against Uruguay. Just like with the US, Germany is my favorite team in the world. And just like the Yanks, I'll take how they played in South Africa every day of the week, they surpassed expectations and didn't beat themselves. I hope Germany gets to play Spain in two years in Ukraine/Poland at Euro 2012, because by then Spain's window will be closing, and Germany will be a fucking machine. Kroos and Muller are 20, Ozil is 25 and Neuer is still a young keeper at only 24, it's going to be a long decade, seƱor.

"Yes they were overhyped after they thrashed Argentina. People had them in the final before they even got to the pitch after the quarters. They are a good team with good young players..."

Those were my exact words. You had people saying they would be hoisting the trophy before a minute of the semi finals were played. I don't know how much more clear I can be. I've already said before that I think they'll be really good in the near future. They always are. Has Spain played below expectations? Sure...overhyped? I don't think so.

However I will leave with this...Xavi hasn't been Xavi?

"Xavi completed 105 passes, becoming just the eighth player to complete at least 100 passes in a World Cup match since the stat was first tracked in 1966. The midfielder also had seven chances created -- defined as passes from teammates that lead to shots -- on Wednesday, bringing his tournament-leading total to 25. With his performance today, Xavi now has 509 completed passes, becoming the second player to complete 500 passes at a single World Cup. Brazil's Dunga, who completed 589 in 1994, is the other."

That's Xavi being Xavi.
