You do realize that no matter what else is going on, you can't put your best available lineup on the field for 162 games. Sometimes you rest guys.

I get resting Lee, Byrd and Soriano. But not all on the same day. If you want to pair off days with the travel day, why not rest one or two today, and the others on Friday. I'd rather not rest nothing but power hitters, and I would have rested Theriot or Castro and spared Soriano or Byrd.

So forgive me if I try to rationalize today's lineup...I'm still trying to get over that Lincecum game from last year.
Oh, and get this...the only two games I'll attend this year are on August 10th and 12th...in San Francisco. My luck...I'll actually miss the Lincecum start on either the 9th or the 11th.

Yes, I get you can't play the best lineup for 162 games. And I get that the same lineup has been used for what, 7 or 8 games straight? Whatever, but you don't sit your 3, 5, and 6 hitters especially when one of your best hitters (Soto) is on the bench with a foot injury. He threw in the towel yesterday. Plain and simple. And if I were Wells I would have been pissed. And I can completely see that wreaking havoc with his concentration after seeing billions of opportunities missed, hence leading to the bad 6th. Throwaway game, nice message to the team and fans Lou.

The message that basically it's alright to not compete, alright to not try your hardest and have towel throw games. I am not "Mr. Rah Rah!" or anything like that. And I think sportsmanship is for the birds. But this team from here on out is going to be built around Colvin/Castro/Cashner not to mention there are plenty of other young arms on the team, and they can be very much influenced right now. You are being managed by the great Lou Piniella...if you are young you are going to live on his every word. He was a managing icon for years when these kids were really kids, and now they are playing for him. You wonder why there seems to be disserray and an attitude problem on this team this year...yesterday sums it up perfectly. The leadership sucks.
It's not about the postseason, but it's about competing and finishing strong regardless. Or at least trying to. Not just quitting on your team. And at a young age on your first go around, I think it's terrible to manage like that and instill that into a kid's head. That it's alright to give up before its over.

Sure-I don't care about it. I think sports is almost too nice nowadays. Not saying be a complete prick out there 24/7...but realize it's a competition and always try to get the mental edge on the opponent. Great player or good sport, I'll take the great player.
