New Arcade Fire album
#31
Never heard of Arcade Fire before last week and I've heard so much about this album online, here and Facebook, so I decided to download it last night. I think it's pretty good. It's not amazing, but it could surely grow on me. A lot of the tracks sound the same to me, and I might be pulling this out of left field, but they sound a lot like a stripped down MGMT to me.
I hate my pretentious sounding username too.

If you're just now hearing about Arcade Fire, then download Funeral -- their first album. It's their best work.

They were absolutely amazing at Lollapalooza.
If Angelo had picked McClellin, I would have been expecting to hear by training camp that kid has stage 4 cancer, is actually 5'2" 142 lbs, is a chick who played in a 7 - 0 defensive scheme who only rotated in on downs which were 3 and 34 yds + so is not expecting to play a down in the NFL until the sex change is complete and she puts on another 100 lbs. + but this is Emery's first pick so he'll get a pass with a bit of questioning. - 1060Ivy

Everyone likes it. I haven't seen a review with less that 4 stars. I don't get it. I just don't think it's special.

That's where I am on this. It isn't a bad album, but it hasn't blown me away either. None of the songs blew me away or stuck in my head. The last MGMT album was similar. It was a departure from the previous one, with a few decent songs and was supposed to be considered a cohesive work not just a collection of singles. I just sort of forgot about it a few weeks after it came out.

I thought the last MGMT album sucked.

Went and saw Arcade Fire last night and damn they were awesome. So much energy. Nice mix from the three albums, closed with Intervention, Mountains Beyond Mountains and Wake Up. Spoon was awesome too.

I've been underwhelmed so far. But any new music is good music. 2010 has sucked as far as I'm concerned.

I disagree (not just about the new Arcade Fire album) I think 2010 has been a great year for music. The National, Best Coast, Big Boi, Broken Social Scene, Gorillaz, Sleigh Bells and Titus Andronicus have all put out albums that I think are awesome.

It's been hit or miss for me as far as music is concerned in 2010, but the latest from The National, High on Fire, and The Black Keys were great and new stuff coming along from Black Mountain and The Black Angels gives me hope that the year in music will end strongly. I've been unimpressed by a lot of the indie music that's come out though so far.

I think almost all of those albums have been great, and let me add news ones by LCD Soundsystem, The Roots, Travie McCoy, Spoon, and Janelle Monae as well.

As far as the new releases I had been waiting for go, the year has been okay. The New Pornographers album is good. Not great, but good. Arcade Fire's is pretty good. I think LCD Soundsystem's new one is okay. I know Tom loves it. The new Interpol comes out next month, and I'm really hoping they have a good rebound album after a so-so third album. Surprisingly, I think my favorite of the year so far is the new Spoon. It's different, but I think it's pretty great.
So I think 2010 might turn out to be above-average.

Yeah, almost forgot about the new Interpol, and even the new Walkmen slipped my mind. September (the 14th in particular) looks to be an insane month of music releases.

Aren't there rumors of a new Radiohead sometime soon?

I had very high hopes for Arcade Fire, The National and New Pornographers. While I like them, I was hoping they would each be a little stronger than they are. One of those standout efforts. I'm still looking forward to the new Interpol. I don't know how they'll sound now on their next album now that Carlos D has left. So I hope this one rocks! I forgot about Gorillaz having anything new. I'll have to check them out. I just got done listening to their NPR concert this afternoon.

There was talk of something being released possibly this year, but not many details have been provided. You never know. they may spring it on us as a surprise considering they are without a record label and can do whatever they want.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Talking about a timetable for the release, O'Brien offered the following: "Ideally, it would be great if it came out sometime this year. It has got to; I hope so. We're at the finishing line. When you're making a record, a film, write a book for ages and ages you think the finishing line is miles away. Now it feels it's in touching distance. But of course, it being a creative process, at the last bit also, you have bursts of energy, you achieve a lot of things in a small period of time and then you're nearly there. It might slow down. But yeah, hopefully it will be a matter of weeks."<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
