2022 Team
In the bleachers today as I’m an idiot and wanted to contribute to Ricketts historically bad team

You saw a nice W, at least.

Side note, Andrew Berlin's son is on my kid's summer tournament team. I was chatting with him for a while last night -- he told me to expect one more bad season after this one. He didn't pretend that they're even trying to be competitive.

Wow, thought having the Reds and Pirates in NL Central would keep Cubs from losing 100 games this season. Rethinking that assumption. The Cubs ERA for June is 6.79 and are 3-14 over last 17 games. The stats are from Tribune’s Sullivan article.

Can’t wait for how team does after the trading deadline. Not to worry as the Cubs will likely have 3/5’s of a new starting rotation after the deadline.

I thought the same thing. I even thought for a while this team would finish 3-5 games under .500. This is difficult to watch (which is why I'm mostly not watching)...

Deliberately tanking might not necessarily work with next years lottery draft. It will certainly shorten the odds but I can see the Cubs just being another Bulls in which we never pick under 7 (Except for the Patrick Williams year).

I’m ready to bitch slap the next “Cub fan” who states ‘what one player is not going to get the Cubs to a 500 team?’ as a rationale to trade Contreras from roster.

While I agree that no one player will get this squad to 500, would make the argument that 2-4 prospects don’t get the squad to becoming competitive within a few seasons without a solid veteran presence. I don’t know if the “rebuild” has dismantled the roster to the studs yet but see Contreras as foundational to club. Winning isn’t important for this season but having a veteran that demonstrates to rookies how to play the game correctly maybe more valuable than prospects

Yeah, Willson is gone in off-season regardless is a solid counter argument but I’ll counter that argument another day

I'm not sure Hoyer is the guy who will lead us to glory again.

Rizzo, Lester, Javy, Ross, Bryant, Fowler, Hendricks, Heyward, etc led the Cubs to glory

Cubs take 2 of 3 from St Louis in St Louis including today’s 10 inning 6-5 win.

Suzuki could be pretty damn good player - 2 HRs in 2 days

They've been playing pretty good ball against some quality teams lately. Not sure what that means, but at least they've been more fun to pay some attention to. I went to the Saturday game against the Red Sox and the atmosphere was pretty electric; it was fun to have that feeling at Wrigley again.

Was in bleachers for Friday afternoon’s game against the Red Sox and vibe was good but had about 1/3 Boston fans adding to environment

Another series win - and against another team with a winning record

No clue what the team will look like after the trading deadline but glad the Cubs won today - only 11 games back. Watch out NL Central. Ha

9.5 out of the wild card! Buyers at the deadline!

Hell, if the Cubs simply don’t lose another game this year, they would likely win the NL Central and could catch the Yankees for best record in baseball!
