Not going to lie, didn't REALLY expect to see us sign Correa...but Simmons as our everyday shortstop is really a swift kick in the gonads.

Between Simmons, Heyward, Madrigal, and Hoerner, that's probably about 5 boners on the season

The addition of Villar is bizarre. Do we have enough middle IF bats now or are we cornering the market?

Do we have *any* middle IF bats?

We really doing the Drew Smyly thing again?

The Athletic breaks down what KB, Rizzo, Baez and Schwarber received in contracts and what Cubs were in discussions to give them.

Hoyer stated that all traded players were provided extension opportunities but players thought it wasn’t the case

KB talks never really extended after 2017 as Boras was going to test market

Baez most likely would have extension but Covid shortened season in 2019 coupled with his bat going to sleep killed offer and talks didn’t move forward in 2020 or 2021

Rizzo was close with extension offer of $70 MM and now is playing in NY for shorter term deal

Schwarbs was allowed to seek employment elsewhere

Maybe the plan is to trade him for cash considerations before he ever pitches for the Cubs again?

This seems like a likely scenario!

I'd like that. Don't we have something like 45 players to squeeze onto the roster? Nice job Jed.

Correa to the Twins. The Twins?

He takes a short term, massive salary per year deal with opt outs after every year which writers said would be the only way the Cubs could have signed him

Paying him $35mil for next season would be weird though. Cubs aren't ready to win.Though, our division sucks... I don't know how to feel about this. Will be interesting to see what happens with Story now. I wish there weren't concerns about his arm, otherwise, even with the H/A splits, I'd be excited to see the Cubs grab him. Still would be I suppose.

I think we’re done spending big for this offseason. The Correa short deal with the Twins makes me wonder why other, much better, teams didn’t jump on that. Nothing surprises me anymore.

Agree with Rok, I’ll be surprised if Cubs spend much more this season

Interesting timing that they announced Suzuki signing the day single game tickets went on sale

The 2 player option years Correas getting would make sense for the Cubs not to bite. Why lose a draft pick and have him bolt after one year when 2023 is the year most of the minor league talent would be ready.

Maybe Correa just wants to be a big fish in a small pond and fly under the radar of constant scrutiny for a year. Who knows
Some men are born mediocre, some men achieve mediocrity, and some men have mediocrity thrust upon them.

And on queue, Cubs sign Smyly to one yr deal for $5.25 MM
