It's unreal what the owners are doing to the sport. They're going to murder enthusiasm for years to come unless they come to a resolution pretty quickly.

As much as I hated Selig, I cant imagine that he would let this happen. He actually cared about the game in his own creepy way. Manfred is nothing but an empty vessel for the owners.

Yeah, the owners wanted a deal done yesterday - guess they might have tried getting something done during the first months of the lockout

ESPN article is not kind to ownership’s position. Wondering if it’s new owners or Manfred is rationale for hardening of ownership’s position. Initially thought that players were going to be the most hard headed group as the last few CBA’s seems to have undercut their position. Apparently, not the case as players group at least provided proposals and straw men to consider prior and during lockout.

I saw a blurb on Twitter about 14 teams making the playoffs? C'mon. Why have a 162 game season if half the league makes the postseason?

I'd love to know where every owner stands.

Quote:Cubs Fans,

Major League Baseball has yet to reach a new collective bargaining agreement with the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA).

Since it is important to have four weeks of Spring Training for players to safely prepare for the season, Opening Day of the 2022 MLB season, previously scheduled for March 31, is being delayed. The first two series have been removed from the schedule. Additionally, MLB has notified all clubs that Spring Training would not begin sooner than March 12.

MLB is committed to finding common ground with the MLBPA to reach an agreement that avoids further harm to the 2022 season and strengthens and grows the game we all love. We will continue to provide you with updates as developments occur. In the meantime, please visit www.mlb.com/update.

Thank you for your continued patience and support.

Sincerely,

The Chicago Cubs

Now that owner criticism has increased, it will be interesting if owners dig in their heels or begin to change tactics. Would expect at least owners return with a better spokesperson than Manfred

Don't love that the Cubs' release says:

Suggests the players aren't. The players are also the Cubs. So frustrating.
