2020 Team
Yeah. It's starting to look bleak in the near future...

I hope Theo has some tricks up his sleeve.

Which of the following is the greatest issue: Cubs Minor League system hasnt properly developed prospects; Cubs trades taxed the system too greatly; or, Cubs drafted poorly?

Cubs have known their competitive window with existing core for some time so Im surprised that FO faces the current and ongoing dilemma.

Poor drafts are #1 for me, as they were supposed to replace some of that traded talent with more talent. Aside from the KB and Schwarbs picks, it's pretty much been a series of wasted drafts. Meanwhile the Dodgers, Yankees and Astros continue to walk and chew gum at the same time.

Is it the drafting or the development?  One of the two hasn't been working properly.

On the prospect position player side, you could argue that some were promoted too quickly, but I'm not sure how much additional development would have mattered for most of the low-upside arms that the FO has drafted over the years.

Definitely were way wrong on avoiding high ceiling, high probability of bust arms.  Going conservative was an epic fail, may as well have taken the chance on big arms.

Agree that drafting appears a bigger issue than development

Meh.

Cubs trade Willco and Schwarber for significant stash of prospects then sign Grandal, Rendon, Cole, Ryu, Smith, and Hicks. Realizing that teams core is aging and its only cash so might as well spend the most $ per win as you can spend.

You left out Castellanos.

I think Green is a good hire.  It's not his fault the Padres sucked.

Considered Big Stick Nick but decided that Bryant could handle being moved to corner OF, would keep about $18.5 MM salary on the books, and probably is a safer bet to consistently produce.

Would assume that McLeod will fill the void now.
