2020 Team
Unfortunately, that’s what Cubs have on roster for closer and starter so hope for best. Yeah, they’re veterans just working on things in meaningless spring trading games

Just received a fed ex from the Cubs.  Fortunately for Cub fans, it's not a 2020 contract but a Holiday Seasons Greetings package.

Guessing the Cubs had to wait on the decision on Bryant's service time agreement before sending out holiday cards and gifts to season ticket holders.

Holiday Card includes a nice daily countdown.  The travel bag is fairly cool with old '79-93 bear logo in grey and includes ID Tag made from aluminum melted down from the old bleachers.

Thought we'll maybe it's to prepare for 2020 season but note says enjoy the holidays.  WTF?

Ha! That's weird.  I wonder if yours is a one off that didn't go out?

Damn. Wrigley Opener initially scheduled to commence in 12 minutes. 42 degrees and cloudy - typical opener weather

Yup, lockdown has left me with way too much time on my hands so here’s Cubs Luxury Tax question:

Here’s what ESPN had to say about updated season rules and luxury tax

“When determining which teams have exceeded luxury-tax thresholds, the league will base it on what full-season salaries were supposed to be, not prorated salary payment. The taxes paid, however, will be on a prorated basis. And if there is no season, there will be no taxes owed, implying every team would reset to the lowest competitive balance tax threshold.”

Cubs appear to be over the limit going into the season so unless they shed salary during season, they are looking at being over the threshold limit for multiple years. Amount Cubs pay for going over limit will be reduced by the portion of 2020 season that is played so the tax will be lower for this season but bigger issue is going multiple years over the threshold.

Appears that the Cubs are about $4.7 MM over threshold limit. Will the amount to be shed prorated based on number of games played in the season similar to how players salaries are paid?

Treatment could make significant difference e.g. if only 81 games are played, Cubs would have to shed double the player’s salary to get to the $4.7 MM which they appear to be over.
