Every fucking tweet is just shitting on either the Cubs or the Bears, that's not particularly clever.

Quote:Great, another NY guy that the Marquee overlords can relate to, and not actual Cubs fans.I don't know, Len wasn't a Chicago guy at all, even now you can tell he has a soft spot for the Tigers by all the Tigers score updates he still shares when they haven't been relevant in years. I've only taken some small note of Sciambi in recent years because he comes across as relaxed and relatable, seemed to get on well with players like Arod and Ross by acting like a confident and intelligent fan might with them, and he is young enough to speak to baseball analytics. This is not my field, there might be better options out there, but who? I feel like the color commentator can be a Santo or even or a Grace or someone who played for the team if that is what makes a guy relatable to fans. But I guess my point is I think being relatable is actually Sciambi's calling card.

This was a surprise and betting he got a better deal in Japan.

Um, Rea was NOT penciled in as the 5th starter, so not sure what Trueblood is talking about, as usual.
Also, I've come around to Sciambi. He wouldn't have been my top choice, but I like him well enough. He'll be fine. I get that Len wasn't a Chicago guy, but he grew up in the Midwest and went to college in Milwaukee, and spent a lot of time in the area before landing the PBP job. Much different story than a NYC guy coming in with no feel for this market. Anyway, I'll stop now, because Sciambi is very likeable and isn't your typical East coast-biased media blowhard, so I'll embrace him and have an open mind.

He seems okay, like they could have done worse. I remember liking him more initially than by the end of that 2nd game.

Did he say his first trip to Wrigley was in 1997? That seems crazy to me unless he's a lot younger than I think he is.

He's basically the same age as Len (born 1970), and I think he meant that was the first time working a game at Wrigley.

Ahhh that makes more sense.

The FO must think we needed another homecoming story/distraction now that Kipnis is gone.

Hope Bryants production surpasses his $19.5 MM arbitration salary for 2021 but doubtful. Rarely one who questions athletes pay but wasnt expecting Bryant to receive almost a million more than $18.6 MM which mlbrumors.com forecast. Saw $20 MM estimates but assumed Bryants 2020 lack of production would have greater impact on 2021 arbitration salary.
Higher salary decreases value of return the Cubs would receive in any trade which may increase chance that Bryant remains a Cub for 2021. Yup, really stretching for a silver lining. Surprised that Cubs and Happ couldnt come to terms. Happ seeking $4.1 MM while Cubs offered $3.25 MM. Happ was one of the bright spots of 2020 season. He made great progress, became an every day MLB position player, a legitimate lead off option for Cubs, and best offensive player with 258/361/505 slash line. |
