Regarding new contracts, don't forget about Kimbrel (or were you just talking about off-season additions?).

Wonder if he's going to be a mess this year too.

The Kimbrel addition only happened because of Zobrist's leave of absence. But, sure -- it's still an addition.

It will be interesting to see how he looks this season, for sure.</blockquote>They also added Darvish. I'm not defending the main point, just saying that was a big post WS win addition as well.

Bryant loses service time grievance so let the Cubs offseason begin

Good. Still don't see anything happening until July at the earliest.

Its only taken 4 years to make the decision

"Bryant filed the grievance after his rookie season, and the process has taken more than four years to resolve."

I'll never understand this...

I would imagine that the delay was by agreement.  The accounts that I've read are that the union ultimately decided to push the grievance more than KB.  It was likely the case that they agreed to defer the arbitration to see if there could be a resolution between the union and the league, with the arbitration only finally happening this offseason because the union's position was that he should be a free agent next offseason.

This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.  [Image: ITgoyeg.png]

I think this douchebag should be forced to read that tweet face to face to the parents of a brain damaged toddler.

If it's an ownership-forced rebuild that's one thing. But the Red Sox and Yankees are models of how to constantly retool talented rosters with holes. I guess I take your point if the front office is being pushed into an eventual rebuild (and you locals and fastidious readers of sports journalism would have more insight on that than I do); I just can't see how anyone looks at the talent on the roster and says "rebuilds a-comin'."

To sum up: on paper, this is not a team on a march to a near future rebuild. However, if tour contention is that ownership is angling to go cheap again for a while for no good reason (unlike the 2011 breakdown), then, yes, let's ready the pikes.

I'm not really sure why Ace is trying to act on Twitter like the Cubs didn't manipulate Bryant's service time.

I'm just happy I don't have to hear him talk about the fucking grievance anymore.

Kap and Nightengale teaming up on the same storyline is fun.

And speaking of two serious minds at work, Kaplan interviewing Jesse Rogers who claims Cubs and Rockies have discussed an Arenado for KB trade?  Jesse...Rogers.

Wasn't that last week's fever dream scenario? Rogers is just regurgitating old news.
