Alcantara isn't a rental. He just sucks. Same with Wisdom (who is most likely terrible).
And I'm not expecting much of a return for either of Kimbrel or KB unless Hoyer decides to add in Contreras. Hell, at this point it wouldn't shock me if Hendricks might be dangled as well. This team has so little to build around that no one should be untouchable.

I expect at least a top 50 prospect for Kimbrel. The guy is an elite closer and probably the best one on offer at the moment.
Bryant depends on the outcome of his hamstring, but same really. He is an all-star afterall.
Don't think we'll get much for anyone else and I don't think they'll trade Baez, nor will they will trade Contreras.

Someone tweeted it wasn't his hamstring, he had a cramp and was pulled as a precaution. I respect all KB has done for the team and maybe I'm an asshole, but he's got to sit out games for more piddily bullshit than any other big name player i've ever seen.

And that's another factor that could really throw a wrench in the trade deadline plans. Also still wonder how screwed up MLB's economics are (or at least that owners and executives would lead us all to believe the situation is dire) that teams aren't offering up large packages of top prospects like they used to (see Darvish trade). I'm skeptical other teams value our trade chips all that highly, but it's time for the FO to move on and get whatever it can immediately.

As good as Darvish has been, he's also almost 35 years old, which is pretty damn old for a starting pitcher. Teams are pretty hesitant when it comes to mid-30s pitchers. And he does have some injury history. It seems like he has plenty of gas left in the tank, but it's possible he wasn't valued as highly as he should be due to his age and the mileage on his arm.

In fairness, Preciado has been impressive in his debut thus far. Fairly certain he was the center piece. Of course with the caveat that its incredibly early.

I just keep thinking about how at the beginning the Ricketts promised to sink every cent back into the team to build an organization that would be perennial contenders.
They were so full of shit.

Believe Preciado was recently rated the Cubs #10 prospect. Cubs gave up one of the 3 top pitchers in baseball - and the liability of his salary - and received a bag of magic beans that may begin sprouting around 2025-2027.
Preciado batted .375/.524/.625 with a home run and four RBI in his first 5 games at ACL. He walked four times against three strikeouts and also added a trio stolen bases. As you said, he's been impressive in his debut but as you mentioned SSS.

Fangraphs has Preciado at #2 on the Cubs and #100 overall. They also have Cassie, Mena, and Santana between #10 & 14 on the Cubs list.

Cubs picked the top LH starting pitcher in the draft. Apparently has the best changeup in the draft.
