Cubs win

Cubs win

Cubs win

Kimbrel pitches a long, frustrating but clean inning for the save

Cubs scored runs without a HR . 3 runs off 4 hits. Error and a walk drove in runs.

Javy just kept swinging for the fences on a night where the ball wasnt carrying. Swinging through a hanging 84mph slider that was up and right in the middle just shows everything is off with him.

Jake is such a bad ass. He is at least 6 mph down, doesn't have his best pitch (slutter) at all anymore, and he just pitches well. Ultimate professional. Walker had way better stuff than him and Jake just outpitched him.

Javy is broken, Pederson is broken. As much as I love Javy, it would be a mistake to give him a long term deal.

Jake has just completely bought into the pitching infrastructure here. Probably wouldn't be performing at the same level anywhere else. He needs to retire a Cub.

Also, what Biggie said. I wouldn't extend anyone from the core at this point except Rizzo or KB, and neither is looking very likely at this point. Pederson is just a mess. If he can't even be league average against RHPs, he's worthless. Javy's approach right now is even worse than in his rookie season, which is quite impressive.

I would extend Rizzo, but honestly that's mostly an emotional decision. More than anyone else, he represents the era of Cubs success that we enjoyed.

Lol I just knew raking in ST was a preview of him sucking ass once the season started.

At this point, I have doubts if more than 1 or 2 players, Willson and Rizzo, from the WS core will be with the Cubs organization in 2021.  Bryant will probably be offered a deal but not accept.  Javy is still a defense gem with power and speed but may not age well and could most likely get a longer term more lucrative deal elsewhere.

Unfortunately, I have no faith that the organization will use the cash "saved" to bring in free agents outside the Joc Pederson variety - one year, retread deals.

I don't think there is a single MLB organization dumb enough to pay Javy anything close to elite level SS money. I love the guy, but no thank you.
