The hype's out of control. They've had the "Countdown to Strasburg" on ESPN all day. I saw Topps is selling autographed baseballs from him on their website for $275.
He's going to be good (maybe not tonight, but I think he will be). Very good. Even so, he'd probably have to have a Roger Clemens career for it to be considered a success to some with this unfair, ridiculous hype.
He has four very good pitches, and he commands all of them well. I saw him throw a dirty change-up on 3-1 last week. That's pretty nice to have when your fastball reaches 100 mph. His mechanics are good as well. He really, really reminds me of Ubaldo Jimenez.
Injuries are going to happen with any pitcher, but there's nothing that really stands out that screams "Tommy John" with him.
