<i>Vast</i> majority? I'm actually not sure if we can agree on that. Most (not all) of the Cubs fans I know are either indifferent to the series or dislike it. I'd much rather see a Cubs/Cards game than a Cubs/Sox game -- and most (not all) Cubs fans I know feel the same.

Just because I would rather see a Cubs/Cards game than a Cubs/Sox game doesn't mean I wouldn't be upset if the Cubs/Sox games were eliminated. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't exactly go cry in my pillow. But I have to admit, although there's not really a logical reason for it, I'm a little more interested when a Cubs/Sox series rolls around.
