I'm going to have to disagree here.
Jeter is one of those guys who was so vastly overrated early in his career, that for the past 5+ years, he's been underrated, almost as a backlash.
He was almost certainly the MVP of the AL in 2006, even though the writers inexplicably picked Morneau. And last year, he was 3rd in the AL MVP race, which led to a Yankee championship. Indeed, in the 9 years of the contract, he's finished in the top 15 of the MVP vote 6 times. He's never had a bad year. During the length of that contract, his team (and there's little doubt that he's the team leader) has finished in 1st place 7 out of the 9 years, and made the playoffs in 8 of those years.
He's going to easily attain 3,000 hits, and has an outside chance at 4,000. He's somehow managed to keep his nose clean, while playing in the most glaring media spotlight in all of pro sports.
Like with Pujols, I've never really liked the guy, but I definitely respect him.

There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance
