MESA, Ariz. -- Continuing his comeback from offseason shoulder surgery, Ted Lilly threw his first simulated game Monday at HoHoKam Park, even mixing in breaking balls for the first time this spring.
"They weren't very good, but I threw some," Lilly said. He threw about 35 pitches over three "innings" while facing live hitters.
Next step?
"I don't know," he said. "What I'd like to do is pitch in a (spring) game, with some fans out there and umpires."
Lilly still is not expected back before late April.
Sounds like late April at the earliest.
