Lilly has shoulder surgery - 1060Ivy - 11-04-2009

I wasn't aware that Ted was going under the knife this offseason.

He had arthroscopic surgery to clean up his left shoulder.

According to the Cubs, no damage was found. He is expected to be able to return sometime in April.

Who needs Harden!!!

I see no reason to freak out about this.

So return in April.... as in start a rehab? Or be ready to go with the big league club? Shouldn't make much of a difference either way, but it would be nice to have our team 100% at the start of a season.

I'm not sure a fragile Harden is the solution to this potential problem.

<!--quoteo(post=0:date=:name=Muskrat)-->QUOTE (Muskrat)<!--quotec-->Lilly will immediately begin an aggressive range of motion and strengthening program. A timetable for a throwing program will be set when he's re-examined after Jan. 1. Typically, recovery time for a procedure such as this would place Lilly's return to the Cubs rotation within the month of April.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Lilly has shoulders?

Was this just discovered? If not, why wasn't it done sooner? Strange.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->“All the news that I’ve been given leads me to believe it was the right decision,” Lilly said Wednesday. “It was something I didn’t want to do, but I also started to feel that after a month and it still wasn’t getting better, I had thoughts of going into the [2010] season trying to battle through shoulder problems all year and I didn’t want to do that. I thought if I get it taken care of now and get it behind me, I’d be all right.”

Lilly said he would’ve had the procedure done sooner in the offseason if he had known his shoulder wasn’t going to bounce back.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Lilly has shoulder surgery - Coach - 11-05-2009

I hope we see him by May

Lilly has shoulder surgery - 1060Ivy - 11-05-2009

It appears that for at least the first month of the season we will probably have: Z, Demp, Wells, Smaradzija and Gorzelanny as the starting 5.

Considering in 2009 each of the Cubs starting 5 went on the DL, we should be prepared to see some combo of Smarardjia and Gorelanny as a starter in 2010.

I don't know if signing Harden is a good option but I know that it at least makes our starting rotation one hell of lot better on paper. Hopefully, the Cubs can find another Randy Wells in the system for 2010.

Just hope the 2010 Cubs can score lots of runs.

Maybe not sign him but at least offer him arbitration. Not sure what's so complicated about that. Maybe that's the plan, but the Cubs are just pretending to debate whether or not to sign him.

I'm all in favor of offering arbitration.

I know this would come off as desperate, but what do you guys think our chances are of taking a risk on a Sheets or a Bedard type SP? I don't see Harden as being in our plans at all.

Lilly has shoulder surgery - Butcher - 11-05-2009

Lackey is my first choice if we're going after a SP free agent. Everyone after him gets a big 'meh' from me.

Bedard would be an interesting risk, depending on how much he'll be asking. Sheets? Man...I think all those years of Prior and Wood permanently fatigued me on high injury risk/high reward type pitchers.
