Why did we trade Rafael Palmeiro, back in the day?

Palmeiro was more than a "contact hitter," even when on the Cubs.
In his last year on the Cubs, as a 23 year-old, he was an All-Star, and finished 2nd in the league in hitting (to Tony Gwynn). That's not the type of guy you trade away.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance
