It is pointless. This country is just fine, why be nationalistic about a contrived event when we already get to see the best baseball players play every single day? Of course every country wants to beats us, we're the best and home to the best league in the world. Why care about an event that has no history and the result doesn't matter? The Japanese won last time (I think), do you think the world thinks they're the best? No, winning a couple of exhibition games proves nothing. Why should we be excited about something that isn't even on par with the All Star game and isn't participated in by some of the best athletes in the sport? What mentality are you talking about? In a country with 3 of the world's best leagues (MLB, NFL, NBA), not to mention the best high school and collegiate programs in the world, there's very little to be excited about when a new set of glorified exhibition games comes along.
