As for Vizcaino, I think he has been fine, he has only had 3 appearances I think, but he hasn't given up anything. I wish Lou would use him a little more rather than running Cotts out there so often and using Heilman and Marmol every single game.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Totally agree. I can't believe Cotts is going to be on this team much longer if he can't throw strikes. The only reason I can fathom of why he is still here is that we really don't have anyone to bring up from the minors. We may be forced to put Marshall back in the pen before to long.

2 reasons Cotts is still on the team:
1. No really viable lefties to call up
2. Out of options

Yeah, I get that, but as I'm sure you already know, if the Cubs brass would use their brains, neither reason would matter. Cotts is not good at getting lefties out, so him being a lefty really shouldn't matter and he shouldn't ever be back so having an option to keep him at AAA means nothing to me either.

What you guys seem to be forgetting is that the ability to get left handers out is only PART of the equation. Quite often, bringing in a left hander is done in order to make the opposing manager burn a right handed pinch hitter, or to turn around a switch hitter who might be better from the left side. Of course it's important to get lefties out, but it's not the ONLY thing.
Having a crappy Gaudin instead of a crappy Cotts completely ties Lou's hands.

Yep, there needs to be a lefty in the pen no matter what. Managers base so many of there decisions on righty-lefty matchups (whether they should is another story), so having the ability to force the other manager's hand is important.
