i dont' see how anybody can say that we couldn't use wood's arm and leadership on this team and he would've come at a bargain.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I am with you Phan...I don't like our pen at all right now if we don't have Woody at the end of it. Everyone is going to be in different roles most likely next year. And with all this stuff about not being able to afford a bat...why couldn't we have traded one? Bart Roberts is still available...could go after him, move DeRo to right and our left handed bat problem is solved and our pen is stronger than it was last year...I just don't understand the Cubs logic in all of this. If it meant giving up Pie, Vitters, Ceda, and Cedeno to get Roberts...so fucking what!!
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
So you'd rather give up all those guys for a marginal upgrade at 2nd base, just so we keep Wood? Kevin Gregg is just fine. Gregg-Marmol is still going to be one of the top 8-9 inning situations in the league, and Samardizja, Gaudin, Wuertz, Cotts, Ascanio are all solid bullpen options. We lost in the playoffs because of our hitting, period. We need a big bat that will step up in the clutch. Plus then you give up somebody like Cedeno, you gotta get another SS then, and the Cubs aren't going to bank on Fontenot being that guy just yet.
Plus are we all forgetting how fragile Kerry is? Odds are he was going to have at least one DL stint, very possibly go down for the season. We need a middle of the order hitter like Ibanez or Bradley much more.

This is why I love this man in a totally non gay way.
