It may not say anything more sinister than that he's priced himself out of the market because he's in a cushy job and already has a ring. For better or worse, he may have decided to be expensive.

It's a cushy job, but one that can't pay him even 50% of what he'd make as a manager. Is it conceivable that it's something other than teams not being interested in him has kept him from getting a job? I guess it's possible for at least some open jobs. But since Brenly was fired from the Diamondbacks, the only teams to not have a managerial vacancy are the Braves, Red Sox, White Sox, Angels, Twins, & Cardinals. 80% (24/30) of teams have had an opening. I think it says something.

You may be right, Kid. Cito Gaston has two rings, and after the Blue Jays fired him, he went unemployed for what, about a decade? I thought that was weird.
IIRC, Brenly was not given a lot of credit for steering a loaded D-Bax team to a ring. But he did seem perfectly competent, and nothing I've seen or heard from him in the booth over all these years has indicated that he's a raging a-hole, or clueless about strategy or anything obvious.
Personally, I think his opinions are spot-on, but maybe he's too opinionated.

There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance
