I would actually prefer the Sox be in the same division if we're going to play them. At least the outcome of the games would mean a little bit more than they currently do.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I do not believe two teams in a single city should be in the same league...let alone the same division. I also do not believe it will happen. For one thing, it eliminates the possibility that they could ever meet in the post-season. That's just GREAT for a rivalry.

It's just plain dumb.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Yup. If there were no cross town series and the Sox and Cubs met in the World Series it would make it that much more special. As it is now...its overkill and I get sick of focusing on it throughout the season and in particular in the weeks leading up to it. It's so lame. I have a coworker who during spring training kept bragging about how the Sox are the better team because they lead the Cubs by two games head to head, as if that has any bearing on anything whatsoever.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I don't mean to sound like a pessimist, but the chances of the Cubs and the Sox meeting in the world series would seem to be pretty slim. I mean what are the chances that the first time the cubs make the world series in 60 to 70 some odd years that the Sox would also happen to be there? Playing the Sox is highlight of the season for most fans, ticket sales and tv ratings would back that up.

I do though think the series could be shortened to 3 games each year, played over the same weekend. The two teams could take alternate seasons hosting the 1st and 3rd game, or the 1st and 2nd. I also think that had the BP Crosstown Cup been introduced as more of a tongue in cheek thing (make the trophy a giant hot dog or something that was obviously done for fun) the idea would work better. Making it a serious sounding thing ironically opens it up for more mocking.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

To me, how unlikely it is to occur is no excuse for making it impossible.

And I don't think this is tongue in cheek. I just think someone figured out the rivalry could be monetized and that someone (BP) would write a big fucking check. I'll bet anything the trophy will try to look serious as hell.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I don't want them in the same division, but doing so wouldn't eliminate the possibility of the teams meeting in the postseason (unless they eliminate the wild card).
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
It eliminates the possibility of a crosstown WS. Natural rivalries should always have that potential.

Yes, thanks, I was saying it should be. Going back to that point, it can still be tongue in cheek and monetized too, that's why it's more annoying. In fact it might work better that way for the sponsor.

As for the world series thing, I don't want the Cubs and Sox in the same division, but getting rid of the in season games in order to make a mythical world series somehow better is just as silly to me. Again, it doesn't need to be 6 games imo, 3 would work, but why take away the games the fans love most? It would be a pretty stupid move by MLB to look at the Cubs and Sox schedules, realize that those games get the most attention, the highest ratings and sell out the fastest, and then decide to remove them so that when the two teams that hold/held two of the longest WS droughts in last century can have a somehow more "special" WS when and if they ever meet.

Also, the White Sox are the last team I'd want to see the Cubs play in the world series. That would almost ruin it.

They should get rid of the Crosstown Series because the Cubs play 6 against the White Sox while the Cards play 6 against the Royals every single season.

And it's fucking stupid.

I have a coworker who during spring training kept bragging about how the Sox are the better team because they lead the Cubs by two games head to head, as if that has any bearing on anything whatsoever.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

To me, how unlikely it is to occur is no excuse for making it impossible.

And I don't think this is tongue in cheek. I just think someone figured out the rivalry could be monetized and that someone (BP) would write a big fucking check. I'll bet anything the trophy will try to look serious as hell.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

He's saying it would be better if it was tongue in cheek, because everyone could have fun with it. Since they are trying to make it serious it's retarded.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Agreed.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Who said they should eliminate the in-season games to make the mythical WS better?

I just said they should never make it impossible for natural rivals to meet in a WS by putting them in the same league.

I do not believe two teams in a single city should be in the same league...let alone the same division. I also do not believe it will happen. For one thing, it eliminates the possibility that they could ever meet in the post-season. That's just GREAT for a rivalry.

It's just plain dumb.

They should get rid of the Crosstown Series because the Cubs play 6 against the White Sox while the Cards play 6 against the Royals every single season.

And it's fucking stupid.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
The Sox and the Royals actually are both sucking this year. But yes, it's not generally fair, that's why I'd make it 3 or 4 game series, lessen the impact on the overall records a bit.

But it's not fucking stupid. It is to you, I get that, but it's not to vast majority of cubs/sox fans. That's my point. The fucking retarded thing would be to take away the most popular games of the season even if it's done in the interest of fairness. Which is only a so-so argument to begin with, because the teams still wouldn't be playing the same schedules.

The integrity of the game is far more important to me than a carnival sideshow that gets higher ratings and more media attention.

The Cubs don't need this series -- they sell out almost every game. Hell -- today they drew 36,000 fans to a weekday day game in April against the Washington Nationals. The Sox need this series far more than we do (from an attendance/ratings perspective).

And the only person I know who gets all jazzed up about the Cubs/Sox series is AJ Pierzynski.

It's fucking stupid.

I get the Cards/Royals argument, but I think that's being nit-picky. Since Interleague play began, the Cardinals are 33-24 vs. KC, and the Cubs are 35-37 vs. CWS. That's only 5 1/2 games over the course of 13 years. Also, what's the difference than the one extra series that we have against another NL team every tear. We played 3 series against the Padres last year, and the Cards played the Mets an extra series. That warrants an equal argument, if you guys are going to worry about the Royals.

I hate my pretentious sounding username too.

33-24 vs. 35-37 doesn't add up. Do we play the Sox more than the Cards play the Royals?
