I'm sure this has been discussed elsewhere, but would it make any sense to make a run at Sheets, assuming his price tag comes down due to a lack of other interested teams? I know he is an injury waiting to happen, but doesn't seem like we would need to go even 4 years for a contract, and if there is any team equipped to deal with an injury to a starter, it would be the Cubs.
Put another way, if we sign him, we would assume his arm would explode, but if the Cards sign him we would assume Cy Young, right?

I'd be interested in Sheets if it were a 2 year deal. He's no less healthy than Harden.

I don't really see any reason to spend any FA $$$ on another SP, we have bigger fish to fry. Plus, I hate his fucking guts.

I lost any respect I had for Sheets when he took himself out of the HUGE game in September(I think). I don't really like the's kind of guy we should be trying to add. He's never won 15 games in a season, and he's rarely healthy. It's hard to justify giving a guy like that over 10 million dollars per, and that's why the Yankees are probably the only team that will.

I love his talent, and would be fine with adding him. But as Ruby said, we have bigger fish to fry than SP.
We have great big holes in 2/3rds of our outfield.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

Hendry's not looking for starting pitching, he's looking for a right fielder, we're taking enough risk with Harden in the rotation, and we don't have the money to get him.

So he spent 3 weeks talking trade with Towers about Peavy (who would cost us upwards of 80 million dollars, and an assload of prospects), but he's not looking for starting pitching and we can't afford one?
I'm not saying he is a prime target but to dismiss him as not even worthy of consideration seems a bit silly to me.

I would consider him but it just won't happen, we're not getting Sheets.

We have enough pussies on this team, and I couldn't stand to have both Sheets and Harden on the same staff, constantly worrying that one or both is one pitch away from ending their respective seasons. Our coaches already devote too much time to risk management as it is.

I'm telling you, as soon as someone like the Cards or white sox sign him, we will be pissed.

With Wood gone, we're minus one, but we still have Harden and Soriano and there's a chance Gaudin and Marshall are too. Relative to recent years though, our pussy ratio as dipped quite a bit.
