Parisi Sent to Iowa?
#1
There's some Twitter buzz that Mike Parisi has been sent to Iowa. If that's true, I guess the Cards didn't want him back.

It's listed on the Cubs.com transactions page
This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena. [Image: ITgoyeg.png]

Well he isn't really a traditional rule 5 guy is he? Isn't he fairly old, like 27? The Cards probably didn't care. He's not really a prospect anymore.

Maybe the Cards don't care - but it could be something else. Some dude on Twitter said to me that this is a different situation because the Cards had already outrighted him. I have no idea what he was talking about.

It doesn't matter. There's no Rule 4 1/2 draft. If you don't keep the player on the 25-man, he has to be offered back.

That is what I thought, too. Like I said - it was just some dude on Twitter.

It's possible that the Cubs sent some kind of extra compensation to the Cardinals.

Isn't there a fee that the Cards must pay to get him back(something small but still)?
Maybe they didnt care to pay it for him.

Edit:
We paid $50,000 and had to offer him back for $25,000

Here is something from MLBtraderumors.com

As Derrick Goold of The St. Louis Post Dispatch explains, Parisi has already gone through the process of clearing outright waivers and being offered back to St. Louis as per the Rule 5 rules. However, since he had been outrighted once before in his career, Parisi was able to elect to become a free agent, which he informed the Cardinals he would do instead of returning to their minor league roster. So after all that, the Cubs retained Parisi on a minor league contract.

Yes, working the angles to get the hell out of a divisional favorite's system is...interesting.

I haven't paid a lick of attention to the Cardinals' pen. Is it just that he stood no chance in hell of catching on with them?

That's probably it. When you're a fringe AAAA guy like Parisi, you probably don'y give a damn about who's the favorite in the division. All you want to do is to be in the big leagues.

In fact, if I were in his position, I'd want to be on the worst possible team, not a contender like the Cubs. He'd have a much better chance of making the Royals or the Nats than the Cubs or Tards.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance
