Cubs and Grabow discussing multi-year deal
BT, the difference is that fans don't have to manage a budget and worry about next year. I just want the Cubs to have the best team possible year in and year out. I'm not in charge of making business decisions.

Hindsight definitely plays a part, and I think it should, because it shows the fruits (or lack thereof) of JH's labor. And recently hindsight has not been kind to JH.

BT -- did you notice this conversation between Clapp and me in that thread?

I believe that signing Bradley to a 3-year deal was unwise. I don't think it was the worst deal in the world, but I think a 2-year contract would have been much smarter -- even if Hendry had to up the cash a little to make that happen.

I have no problem with that.

Same here.

The Soriano deal is still gonna turn out worse.

There's no doubt about that.

I am very intrigued by this point.

BTW, I'll freely admit that, at the time, I had no problem with the Bradley deal. Like everyone, I thought it might be a bit long, but I agree with BT that we all would have been pissed if another team had swooped in with a 3-year deal while we were trying to talk him into two.

I think everyone on this site knows that my first choice, by a country mile, would have been Adam Dunn. But Jim hates those kind of players (as do many GM's, like Toronto's Ricciardi's infamous quote pointed out), so I knew there was no chance of that happening (despite Dunn publicly proclaiming that his first choice of where to play would be Wrigley. Aaargh).

But I considered Bradley to be a cool 2nd choice. As someone correctly pointed out (BT ?) our main concerns were with Bradley's health, not his head. We all knew he was a nitwit, but I don't recall anyone being too freaked out about it.

And I'd have no problem having him back next year. Numbers-wise, last season was an outlier...wherever he lands next year, I'm pretty certain he's going to put up big numbers.
And I'm sure he'll raise some hell, too. That's part of the package with him, and that's my only beef with Hendry/Bradley. Don't swap horses in midstream...you knew it was going to be like this.

I mean, we all did.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

I hope we keep Bradley too, but I hope we utilize him as table setter and not as a run producer. Being successful and winning will allow people to ignore most, if not all, of the crap.

He's a douche, for sure, but he's a douche that almost always produces.

Just like Ace, and that's why we love him.

Geez, maybe I should have addressed that in my post. Oh wait.
